How to move from thinking short term to long, and vice versa

buisnessmeeting26238539.jpg

Thinking long term is a must within a business. Being able to expand a company's net worth should be a long term goal accomplished in many different short term goals. Think of a business like a long flight of stairs and each step as a short term goal getting the business closer to a long term goal. Many businesses face the problem of focusing too much on the short term which causes problems with the longevity of their business.

An example of thinking only short term for a business is a business that produces a product that will only sell because of a trend. Trends don't usually last too long and if your company only makes money off of that trend, then when it is over, so is your company. Internet businesses that sell merchandise for only a certain celebrity, for example, will most likely not make money over the coming years then would be a furniture outlet internet business. Unless the celebrity reached a legendary status, the business would eventually start to suffer with decreasing popularity. One way to fix this problem is to simply switch the mind-set of the internet business to a broader market. Although focusing on a certain celebrity for a business will dwindle over a shorter amount of time, people's interest in celebrities will not.

Why not expand the internet business to sell all sorts of merchandise ranging a large group of celebrities that would attract many different kinds of customers. The furniture outlet internet business already has this sort of longevity from the get go because furniture is an everyday item that people use every day and will continue to use for a long time. To keep the furniture outlet thinking long term they could easily broaden their merchandise to include along with traditional styles have modern styles and always be up on the current trends of furniture.

How to keep your team working hard for long term goals while striving for immediate results

missingpuzzlepiece19378437.jpg

Think of your company of staff of employees as your team fighting to win the championship, or, find success in the market. Like any sports team, there are games to be won often to get to that coveted championship trophy. Your business has hurdles that it needs to jump every day, every week, month, year, and beyond to get into a position that you had set as a goal many years before. Always having that super objective in mind is a great motivator to accomplish great things in the here and now. If you have the will, and your company works hard with those goals in mind, then you and your team will find a way to get there. There will be shortcomings that will need to be worked out, the market may rise and fall, but your company should never stay satisfied with average results. While all of this sounds true and exciting, how do you keep your team working hard for long term goals while striving for immediate results?

To start off, your team members need to know their place in the puzzle
. These responsibilities need to fit the talents of your employees so that they can work in the most efficient way possible. A basketball coach would never put the shortest man on the team down close to the basket, no matter how good the player was because the nature of that position just wouldn't facilitate the abilities of that player the best way. Before you hire your staff, take a look at the basic needs of your company. Look for these things in the people you interview. Thinking this way while hiring is thinking long term. If you have hired the right people, you will see immediate results as they begin to fit into their roles in your company.

How to increase sales through product improvements rather than new products

graphpresentation16486405.jpg

Increasing sales through product improvements rather than new products can give you a head start in the industry. You already have regular, well established customers from whom you have collected information in order to identify their buying habits. The key is to keep your existing customers, and convince your new ones to buy more of your existing product lines. Your established product market share is truly the goose that lays the golden egg.

If you own a small store or a kiosk, present the new and improved products to your front line and make them stand out from other products. Make sure you place them in a way that they are appealing, attractive, affordable and very accessible.

Demonstrate what the improved item can do and couldn't do before. Demonstrate it in many ways in front of the customers. Show pictures of the old and the new and improved item. Display it so the customers can see what it looks like and be prepared to answer questions. More importantly, point out all the changes made to improve the product along with some additional advantages the item offers. Show how easy your customers can own one, and how that nobody should be without one. Show them what a great value it is. You can also throw a discount of 10 percent for the first 50 people that buy the new and improved item.

  • Make sure that you have good supply chain partners:One of the important things before you can truly implement supply chain management is to make sure that you have good supply chain partners. If you do not have good supply chain partners, then your work will never get implemented correctly! The supply chain management system is based on the idea of less control and more supply chain partners - supply chain management is supposed to build up trust and collaboration between these supply chain partners. This trust and collaboration is supposed to help improve the amount of inventory that is produced and the amount of time it takes to produce inventory. However, if you don't have good supply chain partners, then your work will get hung up in different parts of the chain.

businessmeeting30393267.jpg

Motivation is what pushes technology to the limit. Wouldn't it be great to motivate your employees in a way that they could actually take pride in the quality of their work? Have meetings with them and seminars where they can ask questions, listen to seasoned professionals, and look at actual graphs of the company's growth. Motivation can be sparked when people know that they make a difference. Sometimes the day goes by so slow and the work that has been done seems so mundane that they can quickly forget how important their jobs are to the betterment of your business. Why you should award achievement

handshake32145701.jpg

Achievement should always be awarded in all aspects of life. When you award someone for achieving greatness they strive harder to do even better. When you give a child money for getting good grades they will strive to get good grades all the time. When you tell your spouse that you love the new recipe that she tried, she will feel like she can try more things. An achievement is not always the big things it is the small things too, something as small as running your first mile non-stop should be awarded. In the work place you as a manager have the obligation to award achievement to employees who deserve it.Let's talk about why it is always good to award achievement.

Self esteem is something that everyone deals with, even the person that seems perfect to you has self esteem issues.Having low self esteem can hurt. Some people feel that they are not good enough. When you are a manager it is your responsibility to help your employees feel good about the job that they are doing.Compliment your employees on their performance at work.Tell your employees you can see that they have a good work ethic. If one of your employees is down and not feeling the best that they can help them realize that he/she is a huge part of the company and you really enjoy having him/her on your staff. This will make them feel like they are really making a difference and boost their self esteem.

How to get staff to improve their range of skills

reviewpresentation16487501.jpg

An employer should always have the goal in mind to improve his or her staff. Improvement comes from constant coaching and analyzing the work that has been done. Let your staff understand that the good work they do today should not be the good work they do tomorrow. The work should always improve. Putting this little stress in their lives will push them to improve their range of skills.

One way to push staff to the limit of their range of skills is to give them responsibilities that they can do with hard work and focus. As they work through it, watch how they go about seeking instruction and not the improvements they make themselves as they go along. Bring those qualities up when you talk to them. If you notice that they are getting frustrated and stuck, this is the time to step in and be a motivating coach. As the employer, put yourself outside of the problem. Don't have your employees motivated by fear of your wrath. Motivate them by being on their team. They will want to work hard to please you because they know they can trust you.

Why it is important to know how to read people's body language

manandwomanbacktoback63312983.jpg

When people talk, you can tell what they are saying not just by what they are speaking, but also what their body is doing. People talk with their hands, with their eyes, with every part that can help illustrate what they are saying. Sometimes people give away hidden motives because they have not learned how to control this body language. It turns out that body language is a science all in itself. People can be caught lying because of simple body movements that happen when someone is trying to tell a falsehood. One of the most famous examples of this is President Clinton's video tape of lying under oath during the Monica Lewinski scandal. Lie detector analysts use this tape because Clinton uses all of the body movements people use when they are trying to sound truthful. Isn't that ironic? Being able to read peoples body language is a skill that can be developed and used in the real world every day. Here are some situations where reading body language is a good thing.
