Reasons to use Timesheet Software

Time sheet software is a great way to speed up and make the time sheet recording process more accurate and reliable. There are plenty of reasons to use timesheet software, and the specifics will be different for each company. However, the following are some general reasons to use timesheet software:

1. Accuracy: The cost of salaries, per hour workers, and billable hours really adds up fast for a small business, and you want to make sure you are getting your money's worth. For example, your salary employee, who is suppose to work 40 hours per week 9-5 Monday through Friday with an hour lunch break may actually be working 36 hours when you get right down to it. Say Monday they are 5 minutes late, take an hour ten at lunch, as they get back at the hour, but then have to use the bathroom, fill their water bottle, and call their wife. Then they cut out about 10 minutes early. Now that is normal, and does not seem like much time, but it adds up to 25 minutes, which 5 days a week is over 2 hours of work that they are being paid for and not doing. So, timesheet software is a great way to accurately determine how much work is actually being done.

2. Completeness: Timesheet software is a great way for businesses that are not office based to keep track of ALL billable hours. You can also get software that includes other features, like the ability to track ALL your project material costs,ALL your project travel costs, etc. This is a great option for construction crews, or others.
3. Track it all: timesheet software can be as basic as a computer automated system that allows you to clock in and out, and totals up the time so that you can get paid accordingly, however, many varieties also offer features such as time and billing, so that you can track all overhead expenditures in addition to time. This is a great way to determine if certain projects were truly worth what you were paid for them, or if with overhead they are a wash.
4. Flexibility: Timesheet software is generally pretty flexible. You can set it up where it calculates hours and rate of pay to give totals for checks, or you can simply have it log hours, or hours and costs, whatever you feel your needs, based on your company or organizational needs, your timesheet software can fulfill.
5. Reality Check: timesheet software provides you with the big picture on how your employees' spend their time and the real labor costs on a project by project basis. This is a huge plus!
6. History, data base to go off of: One big reason to use timesheet software is to establish and easily retrievable, readily accessible database of your history. It is a big benefit to be able to look back and see just what kind of itme a particular project took, how much it cost you, etc. This really helps to take the guessing out of quotes and costings.
7. Organization: You will be able to plan personnel requirements and job scheduling. Locate and place personnel on best suited tasks, compare employees, projects etc. It also just organizes your system by default, which means you are more likely to be on top of things.
8. Knowledge: timesheet software provides you with invaluable knowledge about time spent on projects, and time spent in the office working. This knowledge can act as a catalyst to send your team into a more productive mode.
9. Time: Having timesheet software means having to only spend a minimal amount of time figuring out hours worked, and time spent, and that alone can be invaluable as many companies struggle with the end of the pay period scrambling to fill out time cards, and the inaccuracies that result from that.
