There are several reasons how creating sick time policies can ensure better overall employee health. One reason is that if sick employees take advantage of the sick leave they are given by their employer they will be able to get better faster. Most employees who have to come to work will get better much slower than if they were to stay home and rest and concentrated solely on getting well.Having to come to work and have the added stress can end up making an employee sicker.

Studies have shown that employees who have sick policies and are allowed sick leave will usually see a doctor sooner during their illness. This can lower their chance of staying sick or having their sickness get worse. If an employee lets their sickness worsen they will probably get healthy at a slower pace and are more likely to get sick more often.

Having sick time policies can ensure better overall employee health since it allows employees who are actually sick to stay home and get better. If the employees come to work sick it is very possible that they will pass on their germs to all of their healthy employees. When a lot of employees are sick in the office and are not allowed to take time off the work produced at the office during that time will suffer.

Creating a sick time policy for the employees can also encourage the employer to keep their employees healthy. No one wants to have to pay for their employees to stay home and get better, so the employer will be more likely to make small, inexpensive adjustments in the office to help employees stay healthy.

One of the reasons that this is true is because when an employer offers sick time (mainly paid sick leave) to their employees they are more likely as a business, to attract better employees. Most of the time a better employee is one that is more educated, takes care of them self, and is more healthy.

Another reason that an employer should create sick time policies is so the employees are happy. When the employee morale is low employees are more likely to feel stress at work. And many employees suffer from stress related illnesses. Plus, stress itself can lower the immune system and cause employees to get sick easier. But when employees have a high morale they are less likely to get sick.

Creating the policies

Many employers worry that if they create sick time policies that their employees will take advantage of the sick time and use it when they are not really sick. While this is can happen, most of the time employees are honest and will only use the sick leave when they really need it. One way that an employer can help make sure that their employees are honest when using their sick time is by adding something in the policy about it. The employer can list certain consequences in the sick time policies for the employees who use their sick leave dishonestly.
