Eye Clinic
An eye clinic is a place where all kinds of eye care can be performed. At an eye clinic, you can receive a basic annual eye exam, or there are different types of eye surgeries that are performed. Your eyes are delicate organs that require regular maintenance, and the preventive measures and treatments performed at an eye care clinic can help keep your eyes in their best shape
A visit to an eye clinic for a basic eye exam is important to maintain healthy eyes and to prevent and treat eye diseases. At an eye clinic, the eye doctor can begin to determine if there are any serious problems with your eyes. There are many different types of eye diseases and other eye problems that can occur:
- Amblyopia is also referred to as lazy eye. It is poor vision in an eye due to lack of development during childhood.
- Astigmatism is when the cornea of the eye is shaped irregularly and the eyes can't focus well on objects.
- Cataracts are when the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy and vision is blurred.
- Corneal disease is disease of the cornea, which is the clear disc that covers and protects the iris and pupil.
- Diabetes can affect eye heath with many different problems that occur because of diabetes, including cataracts and glaucoma.
- External disease is a disease that happens to the eyelid, tear duct, and the surrounding eye area.
- Glaucoma is a disease that happens to the optic nerve when pressure in the eye becomes higher that usual.
- Hyperopia is a condition when the eyeball is shorter than normal, causing distant objects to appear clearer than closer objects.
- Macular degeneration is an age-related eye disease that gradually destroys sharp, clear vision. It is a main cause of blindness and vision impairment.
- Myopia is a condition when the eyeball is longer than normal, causing distant objects to be blurred and close-up objects are clear.
- Ocular trauma is an injury to the eye that causes serious, permanent vision damage.
- Retinal detachment is when the retina begins to separate from the eye and may lead to total blindness if left untreated.
- Strabismus is a misalignment of the eyes caused by a muscle imbalance.
- Uveitis is when the uvea becomes inflamed. The uvea is the middle layers of the eye.
At an eye clinic, these many eye problems can be diagnosed and treated or prevented further.
Eye clinics are also places where an eye surgery and other treatments can be done. There are many different types of surgeries that the doctors at eye clinics may perform:
- Cataract treatment has become more modernized than several years ago. It can be achieved usually without stitches or patches. A small opening is made on the front of the clear outer lens. The cloudy inner lens is broken up and removed from the eye. A new artificial lens is inserted in its place. Patients can usually resume normal activities as early as the next day after surgery, and many find that their eyesight is better than before the cataract formed.
- Glaucoma treatment is done by alleviating pressure on the optic nerve through medication or laser eye surgery. This treatment will never cure glaucoma completely but will help control it.
- Cosmetic treatments also are performed at eye clinics. These range from diseases to the eyelids and brow, as well as aesthetic services such as eyelid rejuvenation, brow lift, botox injections, and more.
