It doesn't matter what line of work you are in or where you work, accidents can and do happen. Most accidents can be avoided with some safety training and more importantly implementing the program. Working with employees to improve the safety in the work place is necessary for a smooth running environment.

Most injuries happen to new employees that are required to carry out new tasks. Most rules aren't always followed because they don't seem important and most people feel the rules don't apply to them. Safety techniques are detrimental to the safety and overall well being of the company and the employees, especially a manufacturing employee.

If you own your own business, it is important to know what type of business that is being run and the dangers that are likely to happen when working. Make sure to carefully research the hazards that could occur and protect your company as well as others from being in harms way.

Some questions to ask yourself :

  1. Does your type of business work with tools that are more dangerous?

  2. What type of weather conditions do you and your employees work in and around? This may be important because if there is danger of slips and falls you need to educate and warn your employees about them.

  3. Does the type of work you do, have a higher risk of accidents?
  4. Will your business be working with hazardous materials?

  5. What types of injuries have you seen or heard about in your particular business profession?

These questions will help make it easier to have your place of business a safe one. After collecting this information, make a plan and set the policies and procedures to make the plan successful. Safety is important! When safety procedures are not followed, it will not only cost the company money, but it can also cost the employee time, money, injury and pain. Customers can also be injured which will cause an even bigger problem.

There are many different ways to enquire about proper safety techniques for your manufacturing business. There are published safety photos, catalogs, videos, and safety packages which usually include a CD-ROM disk with written materials that can be printed out. Some packages also can include booklets for employees, tests and other materials. Make sure to post your safety procedures in different locations for everyone to see. If any unsafe situations occur, they need to be reported immediately. If they aren't reported, consequences of the employee's carelessness should be taken into consideration.

There are countless different hazards and situations to be aware of . Many companies have many different procedures. Here are some, just to name a few:

  • Proper lifting of heavy objects or different sized objects.
  • Proper ways of disposing of hazardous materials.
  • Using protective eye gear around chemicals and other hazardous substances.

  • Wearing proper safety clothing such as: hard hats, gloves and resilient clothing.

  • Proper ways of cleaning up spills.
  • Wearing hearing protection during high levels of noise.
  • Properly using respirators from keeping hazardous air out of their lungs.

  • Operating machinery properly.
  • Recognizing the signs, symptoms and prevention of heat stress.
  • First Aid and CPR training.

Without the proper information on these safety techniques and knowing how to properly use them, many more injuries would occur. Most companies do have the necessary information needed to ensure that the workplace is a safe place to be in.
When employees ignore those guidelines, people can be seriously injured or even killed. It is extremely important to not only know about the company's safety procedures, but to follow them. This will better insure a safe environment to work in and safety for the employees. Please don't let your company be an unsafe one!
