Using Business Process Management with Six Sigma

With so many manufacturing methods out there, how can you choose between the ones that seem to be the most successful and ones that have a large impact in your industry? Two of the most common manufacturing processes that you can choose include Six Sigma and also business process management. Both of them have a number of different impacts and they will be able to help you reduce defects while also strengthening the production process. Six Sigma is officially registered to Motorola but you can use it any way that you like as you can combine it with Business Process Management.

Six Sigma is a method that does rely heavily on the collection of data and the analysis of it. Because you do spend a great deal of time on this aspect there are other places that you may need to worry about like synchronizing these areas in order to have the business flow together effectively. By using BPM and Six Sigma you are able to integrate several areas and to also focus on controlling the improvements that need to be made. Six Sigma uses a lot of manual processes which can make it difficult to manage for BPM as it focuses on achieving excellence.

Most companies have a weakness in one way or another. You need to figure out what these weaknesses are and then focus on improving them in a number of different ways. BPM combined with Six Sigma allows you to identify those weaknesses and then to create a solution for them. With BPM you will end up dealing more with the current processes and how you can fix any of the gaps in the various processes that you are working on improving. If you are ready to implement Six Sigma and BPM together to improve your company, here are the steps that you need to follow.

  1. Define - this phase is where you will define what the current processes are and what your outputs are as well. You will need to spend a great deal of time on the data collection so that you have accurate information to work with.

  2. Measure - for this second phase you will need business process maps. This will help you to see all of the different elements in your company and how the systems impact one other. There will then be time to define how all of the elements need to be used and then analyzed.

  3. Analyze - during this phase you will determine what all of the areas of weakness are within your company. Do you have a lot of bottlenecking? How about backlog and slow processes? When you take the time to analyze all of the different aspects, you can easily find the wastes and things that need to be fixed. Sometimes repetitive motions are what causes delays to occur and this will cause a lot of the problems in the company.

  4. Improve - as you have weaknesses in the company that need to be improved you need to create a go-ahead system to move forward with it. This is where you want to come up with a number of different scenarios as to what you can change and how it will make a difference. Automated processes are going to be one of the main components that will allow you to improve the organization.

  5. Control - the control phase will need to have a monitoring system that allows you to measure the results and to see how they are doing. The BPM monitoring system is one of the best ones out there to help you see if the new system is working and how you can sustain success.
