manonphoneinchina30392185.jpg
Too many people have issues with getting on radio or television because they start getting into desperate mode. They feel like they do not have much chance for getting on the show, so instead of being cool and collected, they start sucking up and ruin their credibility.

So, you have to be cool, not desperate. So, how can you be cool and stay out of desperate mode? Well, first you have to have knowledge. For example, knowledge such as knowing not to call during the newscast, or not calling an hour before the newscast. These are the kind of things that will make the television or radio show annoyed. If you call around a deadline or close to a newscast, you are going to get someone who is grumpy and on edge. So, be cool, and do not call during these times.

Why your marketing mix matters

businessmeeting30396676.jpg
Marketing is one of the most difficult steps in growing a business and a product. It requires tremendous knowledge and a certain ability to know what might be coming next in the market. Often businesses that try to get into marketing without any professional help find themselves in a difficult situation. They need to get information from a customer base that is constantly changing and which has differing desires. If you are running a business and work for one, and if you want to capture some portion of the market you will need a strong marketing mix. The four areas that are generally included in a marketing mix are product, price, promotion and place. Maintaining a strong mixture of these four elements is absolutely integral to the health of a business and its marketing. If you emphasize only one of these elements you will probably have a difficult time selling your product in the long run. While you might have temporary success you will find that companies who make it in the long run have a strong marketing mix.

Using focus groups to improve your marketing

businessmeeting30393267.jpg
For those of us in business we know that marketing is one of the most important parts of any business venture. Almost anyone can come up with a great product or idea, but it takes some special skills to get that product out there. Marketing requires some special talent; you have to be able to figure out the needs of customers and design an image that suits their likes. This can be difficult to do because you have to get into the mind of another person, and also because tastes and likes change frequently in the market. Marketing professionals have figured out lots of ways to figure out the specific needs of customers. One of the best strategies used in recent times is the focus group. Focus groups are small groups of representative consumers who are asked about their preferences and prejudices. It is hoped that the group will provide information that could be used in the development or marketing of new products. It is a tactic used to figure out what a large group of the population might like to see in the market. Focus groups vary greatly depending on the type of consumer being targeted and the type of company used. In many cases they can be costly to run, but they often lead to positive results if conducted well.

If you think about business you probably start to think about certain brands. You probably think about your favorite brand of clothing or car brand. The importance of brands and brand recognition cannot be underestimated. Much of advertising today focuses on brand promotion and recognition. If you can get a positive reputation among people pertaining to your brand you can sell almost any product. People wear ridiculous clothing and pay enormous sums just to wear a pair of shoes or shirt. In many of these situations the result is that people are actually paying hundreds of dollars to advertise a brand. Psychologists and sociologists have studied this phenomenon and found that humans have an interesting tendency to look for popular brands and stick with them. Perhaps you have had experience with this in your own life and know how powerful the pull of a popular brand name can be. What this should teach you as a business person is that branding is one of the most important things you can do. People don't shop much anymore on the basis of a particular product; they shop based on the reliability of a brand they have heard about or have tried. If you are looking for a way to improve your business consider these tips for better branding:

The challenge of differentiating your products

cupsofcoffee37472685.jpg
Have you noticed that there are lots of products out there these days that look exactly like other products. When you go to the store to purchase something you have a choice between tens of products that seem identical. Many people finally choose based on the price of the different items, but they wish they could figure out some other difference. They can buy an insecticide that kills bees or they can buy another one that kills bees. How can you tell which is better than the other? In many cases there is no difference, which should tell you something if you are trying to sell a product. Product differentiation is a very important part of marketing and selling a product or service. Differentiation refers to the process of altering your product just enough to make it stand out from all the rest. When you develop a new product you need to always ask yourself if it is different from the other ones that will sit next to it on the shelf. However, this can be a fairly difficult thing to do because there are so many products and good ideas out there. Just taking a look at the products on the shelf of your local department store makes it perfectly clear that you have a challenge in front of you.

Marketing and Lean Manufacturing

mangivepresentation30392901.jpg
You might have heard about some of these new manufacturing techniqes called lean manufacturing? In recent years a number of Japanese companies, and particularly Toyota, have developed new ways to organize manufacturing. These methods focus on eliminating waste and streamlining manufacturing. They identify the source of waste and work to convert it into something useful. The goal is to get to a point where all of the energy and time going into a product only produce value for the customer. If, for example, a company tends to overproduce or to leave machines on while they are not being used. This type of waste results in increased costs to the customer and hence to lower profits for the producer. So lean manufacturing works to eliminate such costs and to increase total profits. It also works to make the production process more fluid. The entire process is taken into account; from the beginning of production to delivery, lean manufacturing makes the entire process much more efficient.

How to set up a successful cross-promotion

carpart67965274.jpg
Introduction

Cross-promotion is a marketing technique that aims to make buyers aware of other items that you are selling in addition to the one that they are interested in buying.Generally there are two ways that you can successfully use cross-promotion.The first is to sell more items per buyer by offering the buyer items that you think they will be interested in or by suggesting items that compliment the product that they are buying. The second way to cross-promote is to sell higher value items by suggesting a similar higher priced item, perhaps something with more features, that the buyer may be interested in as well.Cross promotions can also exist when cooperating or complimentary companies work to promote each other's products.

Effective marketing strategies for an older market

oldermanonphone30841557.jpg
In determining effective marketing strategies for an older market, the marketing team must first realize just how influential marketing strategies are on older markets. In the past it was common for those in marketing to focus on younger members of the market because they reasoned that these younger generations of people would live longer and therefore have more time to buy products. This misconception has been robbing many companies of their more mature audiences' dollar.

Statistically speaking, the Baby Boomer generation (often categorized as the older market) out number both generations that have been born after them.In fact, with the average life expectancy being higher than ever before, the older market still has about a quarter of a century of quality consumer spending left ahead of them. There are 50 million Americans over the age of 60 and these members of the older market spend an average of about $1 trillion a year. That is a huge market segment!

Effective marketing strategies for a younger market

pda30321865.jpg
Online or internet marketing is an incredibly effective marketing method if you are trying to reach a younger market. In fact, studies have shown that successful marketing on the internet is developing faster than any other marketing media in history. Sure there may be barriers to breaking into the internet world of marketing and there will be a learning curve and education needed when it comes to understanding how to most effectively take advantage of web addresses and search engines. However, businesses are finding that failure to have a presence online is a significant deterrent for the younger market whose members often goes to the web to check out a product or business before considering a purchase.

When it comes to marketing for a younger market, time tested marketing strategies are still proven effective. However, issues of truth and materialism are forcing marketing professionals to re-evaluate their strategies, especially as they pertain to the youngest customers being focused on in marketing techniques.Parents are growing more adamant that certain products that violate rules of innocence and decency be kept away from their children and that means going to the advertisers and marketers with their oppositions. Many a new products have had to be pulled from production because short-sighted marketers did not anticipate the emotional response that the product being marketed would cause.

Marketers are looking to allocate their marketing budget into areas where it will have the most impact.According to BtoB's "2008 Marketing Priorities and Plans" survey, 60.1% of marketers said that they plan to increase their overall marketing budgets next year predominantly to include online, events and direct marketing strategies. From this survey it can be deduced that areas such as online marketing are getting a lot more attention than they used to and therefore allocating a portion of the marketing budget to this method of marketing may be worth your while.
