Becoming a reputation defender

meninsuitswordfight32346821.jpgYour companies reputation is vital to it's success. A number of companies have one instance where poor media coverage can absolutely ruin their reputation and will leave them in a bind. If the media has damaged your reputation, there are several things you need to do in order to restore your reputation and build your companies credibility again.

Tip # 1 - Hire a reputation management firm
One of the first things you need to do is contact a reputation management company. They will help restore your company's image. A reputation management company is responsible for building a positive brand image by sending out press releases, holding media conferences, and a number of other things. They already have the connections you need to restore your reputation and introduce your company to new potential customers. Develop a crisis plan with the reputation management firm, this will save you a lot of time in the event that you may have future issues.

Tip # 2 - Remove negative listings
One reason why your reputation may be hurting is because of the information that is online. Are there some bad reviews about your company? Negative information is a killer to your business and you need to try and get the information removed or you need to start posting other content out there that will rank higher from the negative information. Pushing the negative information down the search engine results as much as possible is one of the best ways to improve your company's image. Depending upon the website, you may not be able to convince the company to remove the listing but you can usually offer a rebuttal to what they said.

Tip # 3 - Watch the internet
In order to make sure you are maintaining a positive company image, you need to keep your eye on the internet and find out what is being said about your company. Google Alerts is a great tool to use as it uses RSS feeders to scan the internet and find out what people are saying about your business and where the information is. Google Alerts is free and it's a wonderful way to manage your online reputation to make sure your company is being portrayed correctly. Do a search often to find out if the new information you are posting is starting to climb up the search engines. This is a great way to gauge if your hard work is actually working.

Tip # 4 - Get active
Companies that focus on building their reputation must be active online and offline in order to restore their good name. Use blogs, press releases, articles, and other things to build your credibility. You also need to use social media sites like Facebook and Twitter to expose yourself to a new audience. Use the discussion boards and other things to promote a positive brand image for your company and to build your brand. Just make sure you are using these sites often in order to show your customers that you are active and that the content you are posting is new and fresh.

Tip # 5 - Build a network
Becoming a reputation defender is easy if you have a good network to rely on. You need to focus on finding influential media members and others that will be able to help you spread good information about your company. Keep your contacts organized so you can turn to them in a hurry. Media members are great but you also need to stay in touch with other influential people that can help your company when you are in a bit of a crisis.
