How staying out of desperate mode, or suck up mode is going to get you on the air

Too many people have issues with getting on radio or television because they start getting into desperate mode. They feel like they do not have much chance for getting on the show, so instead of being cool and collected, they start sucking up and ruin their credibility.

So, you have to be cool, not desperate. So, how can you be cool and stay out of desperate mode? Well, first you have to have knowledge. For example, knowledge such as knowing not to call during the newscast, or not calling an hour before the newscast. These are the kind of things that will make the television or radio show annoyed. If you call around a deadline or close to a newscast, you are going to get someone who is grumpy and on edge. So, be cool, and do not call during these times.

If you do call at the wrong time, and you catch an anchor, reporter, or talk show host on edge, you lose your ability to be cool.

Also, if you want to be cool, you have to avoid the big suck up mode. If you act like you would do anything for them, that you would do whatever it takes to make them happy, you are not going to score points, you are going to annoy them. These people are professionals, and if you want them to value you, you have to show them that you value yourself. Someone who would gravel and worship them is not an equal. You have to be an equal.

The fact is, the more suck-upy you act, the more desperate to get on the air you look. People who are desperate to get on the air, don't usually get on. Why? Because if you are that desperate, you must not have much to offer. Fact is fact.the more suck-upy you are, the less likely you are to get on the air. Sucking up includes things like sending food, changing your schedule for them, etc.

So, how can you be nice, and accommodating, as well as complimentary without looking like a big suck up? There's a way to be cool and send food, leave a good message, etc. You have to do things like saying, "Hi, I watched your show, or listened to your show, and I know you do." This shows you like it enough to listen regularly. However, when you start going into "I love your show, you are so great, I want to work with you so bad." Then you go from respectful and polite to lame and too desperate. So, the way you stay cool is talk to them the way you would talk to a business colleague, after all, you are trying to use them to further your business, right? Also, if you are at all nervous, practice what you are going to do and say. You do not want to sounds nervous, it makes you look like you do not know what you are doing. If you practice, you sound more credible, less desperate.

Even if you are desperate to get on their show, you have to respect them, but give the feeling that you are doing them a favor by offering your expertise, not as much the other way around.

Now you have a great working knowledge of how to get on a radio or television talk show. You know who to pitch to, tips for pitching the right way, how to establish yourself as an expert and more. However, there is still plenty to learn. If you want to learn more check out.
