How to better use your ad space

If you have designed a website for your business you probably have some extra space on your website for various ads. Many companies use this ad space to generate more income for their business. They do this buy selling their ad space to other businesses that will benefit from promoting their products on your website; this is one of the trickiest parts to selling ad space. You can either sell the space yourself or you can hire another company to do it for you. But if you do choose to sell your ad space to other companies you should follow some simple guidelines.

Guideline one:
Always give your content more prominence on your website, basically you should have more space dedicated to your product or services then you do to ad space. The content on your website should be clear and concise and preferably in the middle of the page without any ad interruptions.

Guideline two:
The best place to put the extra ad space is on the right hand side or the bottom of the website. But whatever you place the ads you do not want to place any ads on the left hand side of the website. The reason for this is rather simple. When we read we read from left to right so if the ads were placed on the left hand side of the website they would be the first thing that we saw. When potential customers come to your website you want them to see your content first so by placing a menu or something similar on the left hand side and keeping your main content in the middle you are increasing your products promotion on your website.

Guideline three:
While you want the main focus to be on your content you are still going to want to draw some of the attention to the advertisements on your space. This is especially true if you are getting paid for directing customers to the site, such as pay per click advertising or something similar. So something you are going to want to do is choose ads that go along with what your website is about. For example if your website is about computers you are going to want to have ads that sell computer parts, software or anything else that deals with computers. This way your potential customers can find anything else they are looking for on your website.

Now if you are going to buy ad space to promote your company you are going to want to think about the above items because they are going to help you decide where to purchase your ad space. For example you are not going to want to buy ad space on a website that is devoted to finding you the perfect match if you are offering blinds for sale. Also by thinking about the above factors if you find a website that is offering ad space on the left hand side you can take advantage of knowing that is probably going to be read first rather than last like other websites. But you should think about what kinds of ads you are going to place.

When designing your advertisement you have to think if you want a text based advertisement or if you want some graphics in your advertisements. Most people tend to think that graphics tend to draw more people to an advertisement, but what they don't realize is that if the graphics are too flashy they can actually draw people away from what you are trying to sell. Text based ads are known to attract more traffic because they are actually recognized by search engines and can end up in the results that they provide.

Just remember that there is no better way to use your ad space then to sell it to the highest bidder so that you can generate more income from your website.
