Marketing is a crucial component of your business. Business owners who have successful businesses understand the need to make marketing their business a priority.Whether you have a new business that is just starting out or you own an established business with more resources to market with it is still important to be aware of the basics of marketing. Many times business owners can get off track when it comes to their marketing and reviewing the basics can help you formulate a more effective marketing plan that gives you the results that you are looking for. Here is what you need to know about how to get started marketing your business-

- Start with marketing research-An effective marketing plan is built on market research. You should never assume that everyone will want to buy your product or service or just because you get your marketing message out it will work. You need to take the time and make the effort to do the market research. When you have done the right amount of market research you will be able to determine who is most likely to be your target market. Keep in mind that your market research should include: the gender, ages, income, lifestyle and buying habits of your potential target market just to get started with.
- Write a marketing plan-The market research you have done won't do your business much good if you don't utilize it. The best way to utilize your market research is by putting it into a well thought out marketing plan. Business owners who assume that they don't need a marketing plan or they don't have time to write one are making a serious mistake. You need to take the time to plan out your marketing just like you would make a plan for any other aspect of your business. This will help you to set marketing goals, chart your progress toward those goals, and see where you are spending your marketing budget. It is only after you have a marketing plan that you can effectively put out your marketing message.
- Look carefully at your pricing-The price that you set for your product or service will be an important part of your marketing. However, it should be stressed that you should not determine your marketing strategy by the price that you set. You need to keep in mind that while pricing your products or service to high will cause your customers to look for a better deal, conversely if you price to low then your customers will see your product or service as having little value. You need to do careful research to determine what will be the acceptable price for your location while also taking into consideration your competition and the market demand.
- Focus on solution marketing-Many business owners find it difficult to locate the most effective way to bring people in to buy their product or service. However, the solution is fairly simply. Savvy business owners know to focus on solution marketing. You want to let your target market know through everything that you do in your marketing that your business has the solution for their need or want. If you have done the right amount of market research then you will know what their need or want is and how your product or service solves it. Then all that is left to do is to find the right way to let your customers know what you have to offer them. Offering your product or service as the solution is the most effective way to let your customers know what you can do for them.
