Print advertising basics

When it comes to advertising everybody knows that you can have electronic advertisements and print advertisements and pretty much everybody understands the difference between two. And since most of you are aware of the differences between the two types of advertisements than you are also aware of the fact that the same concepts do not apply to print advertising as electronic advertising and vice versa. In both types of advertising there are some concepts that are the same, but even though some concepts are the same in both forms of advertising you still need to keep some things in mind about print advertising. The main thing that you need to keep in mind is the basics in print advertising because without understanding the basics you will not be able to effectively use print advertisements.

Here are some of the basics that you are going to need to know about print advertisements.

Tip one:
When designing your advertisement you have to think if you want a text based advertisement or if you want some graphics in your advertisements. Most people tend to think that graphics tend to draw more people to an advertisement, but what they don't realize is that if the graphics are too flashy they can actually draw people away from what you are trying to sell. Text based ads are known to attract more traffic because they are actually recognized by search engines and can end up in the results that they provide.

Tip two:
Perhaps you might be thinking that if you are sending out ads in the paper or through the mail that flashy graphics will work, that staying away from flashy graphics only applies to advertisements that you are going to use on the internet. But the truth of the matter is that graphics can actually take away from your ads if they are too much. So when creating advertisements for your company you want to keep the graphics on the simple side and come up with a line or slogan that can grab your potential customer's attention.

Tip three:
One thing that you want to do is to create written ads that will have a long lasting effect on your potential customers. Try to stay away from the ads that say things like "Hurry sale ends soon" or "Buy now before offer expires" will these types of ads can be effective in getting people's attention they will not create long lasting customers that will return time after time.

Tip four:
Keep in mind that just because you have used an ad once doesn't mean you can never use it again; a good ad will last a long time, besides the fact that you can find other ways to use the ad. You can create several ads off of one ad by changing the message, the color format, the font size, and anything else you can think of, while still keeping the feature character.

Tip five:
Another thing that you are going to need to think about when it comes to print advertising is where you are going to be placing your advertisements. One place that many businesses find is a great place to pay for an advertisement is the yellow pages or the local newspaper. But something that you want to keep in mind when placing a print advertisement in one of these places is that potential customers usually call the company that has either a dominant ad or a well placed ad. One thing that you are going to want to do is to make sure that your ad is eye catching, with both graphics and text. You should also think about how large of an ad you are going to place, small one line ads which are cheap don't attract a lot of customers so you might want to think about spending a bit more to place your print advertisement.
