Prioritizing your marketing plan

Marketing plans are some of the most important parts of any business. Obviously a business has to market its products if it wants to grow. As a new business owner one of your top priorities should be finding new customers and getting the word out about your business. Don't just sit around and hope that people will visit your business. A good marketing plan will help you to take the right steps to develop your business. However, what few business owners know is that it is very important to prioritize the items on your marketing plan. It is very inneficient to simply try all marketing ideas at once. If you try the marketing strategy for a much more established business when you are just starting you will have a hard time. Furthermore, there are lots of different marketing strategies, and some of them should be placed further down the list. If you want to succeed with your business, consider some of these tips for prioritizing your marketing plan:

  1. These days one of the most important marketing tools is the internet. Obviously this can vary by the type of business you are running, but in many cases you should consider starting a website and advertising on other business's websites. It is especially helpful at such times to think about using keywords on your website or advertisments so that internet search engines can find the site. If search engines cannot find your site the internet will do you no good.
  2. If your business is local you should try some sort of big opening day marketing blitz. Cover the town with flyers and run radio and television adds. Get some hype built up surrounding your business and offer some sort of major discount during a given period of time. This should hlp you to develop positive word of mouth quickly. This can also work well for national chains that are moving into a new area.
  3. Next, think about longer term advertising. You will need to include marketing information about sales or special deals. A good campaign will include a mixture of television and radio advertisements over an extended period of time. You will also want to periodically change your advertisements. Without changes people will start to think that your advertisments are annoying. Make sure to use a professional advertising company to generate your adds. A home made add can make your business into a joke, which you especially don't want to do when you are just starting.
  4. At some point you will want to conduct focus group studies and make inquiries among your customers about how they feel in regards to your business. This is an important step in the marketing process and something that should be done on a regular basis.
  5. Finally, a good idea once you have some regular customers is to offer a discount to customers who can bring in new customers. You might offer half price to anyone who brings in someone new. If you have customers who allready like your business, and who want to get some sort of discount this can be a great strategy.

As you can see, prioritizing your marketing plan is absolutely essential to a good business. If you don't have a prioritized plan there is a good chance that you will simply throw lots of money at advertising without any positive results. You might want to ask another local business about their marketing strategy so that you can find a good method. You can often learn from other's mistakes as much as you can from their successes.
