Samples

Samples are a great way to engage customers and reach potential new customers, and should be a part of your marketing plan whenever possible. There are several reasons that samples can be a huge marketing tool, here is a quick look at a few of the top reasons:

1. Samples can turn contacts into customers. When a person has the opportunity to try a product before they buy it, they are far more open to doing so. This means that each person you talk to, give a sample to, and interact with, has the potential of becoming more than just a contact. This is a one on one time that allows you to talk to the contact, educate them about your product or service, mission, etc. and engage them with a great product or service that will benefit their life in some way. Samples mean the chance to turn a contact into a customer.
2. Lessens risk. The whole idea behind marketing is to position yourself as a trusted expert, friend, or professional company that people can feel confident they will get value for their money. Sampling can really benefit you in the goal of positioning yourself in the market because it minimizes the risk for your potential customers. They know what they are buying, and they can figure it out without wasting a cent. This is huge for many people, they want to know that your brand is all you say it is, and as great as the advertisements claim, and what better way to reassure them then to give them a chance to try it, no money involved? By lessening their risk, you increase their trust in you, your brand, and your product.
3. Opens the door for them to learn about your product, and creates customer engagement. Sampling allows you to get in front of the customer, and have a great excuse to spend a few moments with them. As they partake of your sample, you get to tell them what they are seeing, hearing, tasting, etc. About your company, why you are passionate about what you do, and how it can benefit them. This is what they have to listen to in exchange for the free sample. This creates customer engagement, and can spark excitement around your product or service.
4. Low cost marketing. When you do not have a lot of marketing dollars, samples are a great way to get your product or service off the shelf and into the hands of potential customers. It costs far less than most traditional advertising.
5. Face to face contact with customers. This has already been touched on, but it is an important aspect, as it helps you create a trust, and establish the seeds of that trust, which eventually may lead to brand loyalty.

Sampling is something that can work for almost any business, and when you have more time than money, and more manpower than funds, this is a great way to engage customers, get the word out on your product or service, and hopefully gain more market share.
