Search engine marketing, how it can help your business

Let's take a look at how search engine marketing can help to expend you business. Making a move to get more and more involved in Internet marketing is an exceptionally good move. The Internet, odd as it may sound, is really still in its infancy, but already bloggers are shaking the corridors of power in Washington and video rental titans are desperately trying to keep up with a couple kids with a fast computer and an idea.
Search engine marketing is a way of inserting your business, service, idea, etc., into the Internet in such a way that when people search for anything having to do with your service, guess what? Your service comes up on top. Let's look, in a general way, at how this sort of thing could expand your business and bring you into contact with other movers and shakers in your field.

1. Let's say, for example, that you work for a hobby store. You sell, say, remote control cars, planes, etc., as well as an assortment of educational tools such as robots you can build yourself, complicated puzzles, chemistry sets, and so on and so forth. You've put together a pretty good collection, you've got a great staff, but guess what? There are literally thousands of hobby store sites on the Internet. How are you going to compete? How is some kid from Kansas going to know to choose your store over another that seems just like it?
2. This is where search engine marketing comes in. It seems like a complicated process, and in some ways it is, but you'll have other people crunching the numbers for you. Search engine marketing is the art of bringing your company to the top of the page whenever someone searches for your product. Search engine marketing studies have shown that people generally click on the first three to five sites they run into, and especially if they're looking for something like a toy store where they assume they can get whatever they need without having to look elsewhere. Therefore, search engine marketing will help to make sure that your store is one of the stores that gets searched-every time.
3. Back to the hobby store example and search engine marketing. We said you sold remote control cars, planes, etc. What search engine marketing does is to see the most common words people type in when looking for such things. Trust me, it's not as simple as "remote control car." The real buyers are the real hobbyists, i.e. the ones who know what they want specifically. Therefore, if someone can tell you such and such was written so many thousand times this month, your job becomes relatively simple. You just make sure that such and such is written all over your site. When your writers do a description of a puzzle, they use such and such in the puzzle. (Remember, such and such is the phrase we've been told is being used again and again).
4. So we see that it is a pretty complicated process, but very simple too if your look at it in its individual parts. When someone types in a request into the search engine, it rapidly searches the Internet and pulls up all the sites having to do with that request. Let's say the request is "robot that walks by itself." For some reason, walking robots are all the rage this year. With this information, you'd (a) advertise such a robot on the front of your page, and (b) put it into your site in such a way that when the search engine does its scan, it reads through your site and says, Ah, this site reads "robot that walks by itself" more than all the others. And presto! Your site comes up, and research has shown that it's not going to be ignored.
Search engine marketing is an affordable, relatively uncomplicated way to make sure that your business stays on the top of the list. As we said before, there are thousands and thousands of sites online just waiting to sell your product. Developing Internet smarts and taking advantage of its unique and ingenious ways of advertising will give you a great edge over your competitors.
