Telemarketing tips and tricks

Everyone's heard of you; they all know the general idea that comes with the word "telemarketer" and they're ready to give you every excuse in the book for why they don't need or want your service or product. So, number one; how do you work up the courage to even call? And number two; what strategies do you have to sell your service or product that stand out from every other telemarketer they have heard from today? These are two important questions to ask yourself if you are in the telemarketing business. Most individuals (if they haven't placed their name on the "National Do Not Call List") will tell you that they hate telemarketers and wished they never called. Here are five telemarketing tips and tricks to getting a voice on the other end of the phone.

Tip #1:Use the script
Since telemarketing requires you to interact with another person on the phone, you are solely dependent on the words you choose to use and the tone in your voice. If you are new to telemarketing you most likely received a written script to follow as you engage in conversation over the phone. And you may feel like taking the script and somehow tweaking it a little to "make it your own" I think the phrase is.What most telemarketers fail to realize is that this is the number one mistake in telemarketing. You have only a few seconds to make a good impression, so why reinvent the wheel? You have been given a script for a reason; because it works, so don't change anything.

Tip #2:Preparation

When you meet a person for the first time, a first impression can tell you a lot.Unfortunately in your line of business you don't have that face to face meeting; the only thing the person on the other end of the phone hears is your voice. If you stumble and fumble through words you're going to sound like an idiot.Prepare yourself by practicing before you make the call.Be courteous and professional.

Tip #3:Buy Quality Prospect Lists
If you want to be a successful telemarketer you will need to have a good prospect list and in like most other cases, if you want excellent results you will probably have to spend some money getting them.First find out if yours state has a "do not call list."If they do you will want to learn the guidelines for that so that you're not breaking any laws.Make sure that when you purchase your list, you have purchased it from a reputable source that offers targeted customer lists only. Buying "freebie" lists will only frustrate yourself and your team.

Tip #4:New Target Markets
Make sure you talk with your customers to find out what their demographic standing is.Many businesses neglect to do this regularly and lose a lot of business because their target market has changed. You should be finding this information out every couple of months; not every couple of years. You make enough phone calls as it is; don't waste your time calling people who don't even need your service.Find out who the market is, and focus your energies on those who are more likely to use your service or product.

Tip #5:Outsourcing

If you decide that it isn't worth your time to hire a telemarketing team but there is just too much work to do, you might want to consider outsourcing. There are a number of different telemarketing agencies out there that can do it for you.It may just be worth your time and money to hire one of these companies, especially if you can find one that specializes in your service or product. It might surprise you at how much your response rates increase.

Hopefully these telemarketing tips and tricks will help create success with your business.
