Using good packaging to influence customers

giftbox36222432.jpgThere are several things you can do to influence customers to buy your product, but it doesn't always mean it will be successful. One area you need to look into is your packaging. Packaging your product the right way will help it sell and influence customers to share the product with others.

The packaging of a product needs to provide customers will all the answers to questions they may have. The packaging should help them make an informed shopping decision. This is why you often see small products in large boxes. It is all about informing the customers to help them make a wise shopping decision.

When you are trying to influence your customers, you need to find out exactly who they are. Figure out what the market niche is and the different market trends for your customer group. If you don't keep up with all the trends, how can you define your target audience and package a product in a way that is attractive to them.

A great way to figure out if you have chosen the right packaging is to put yourself in your customer's shoes. Do an analysis of your product and ask yourself what sets your packaging apart from your competitors. Why would they choose your product over another? Try placing your product with others on the shelf, what would compel people to pay attention to it? If it doesn't catch your consumer's eyes, it is not doing its job as good packaging. It is important to keep up with packaging trends. Do your competitors use large, extravagant packaging or do they stick with small packaging. Pay attention to what your customers want so you know what type of packaging suits them.

Studies have shown that over 70 percent of purchasing decisions are made in the store. This means, you need to have packaging that can sell itself to the consumer when they are debating if they want to purchase the item or not. It takes a customer about 2.6 seconds to make a purchasing decision between two different types of packaging. Your package must immediately convince the customers to purchase the product the moment they see it.

You can improve your packaging by telling the customers exactly what your product will do. Customers want to know what's inside the box and they want to know all the features it has so it will solve their particular problem. Make a short list on the back of the top features of your product so your customers understand exactly what to expect from your products. When you are creating the buying points on the package, make sure to think like a consumer and consider the "what's in it for me" mindset.

What you say on the package will be read and scrutinized by your customers. They will look over everything you are saying about your product to determine how it is better from your competitors. Everything you state on the package must be true about the product, especially if you want your customers to come back and continue purchasing the product. If you claim something about your product and your customers find that it is not true, they will provide information to watchdog groups who will then break the information to the media. This could be the downfall of your company, so you need to be very careful about the different claims you make about your products.

Packaging is something you need to look at often. Most companies are constantly looking for ways to improve their packaging and make it friendlier to the customers. Make sure you spend the right amount of time on your packaging so you can keep your customers coming back for more.
