What is the difference between marketing, advertising, and promoting?

Not many people are aware of the difference in the terms marketing, advertising, and promoting. The reason for this is that the difference between the three terms is not very big, so it is easy for people to use them interchangeably, which makes it harder to convince people that there is a difference. Regardless of how small the difference is it is still important to know that there is a difference, although their main objective is the same.

Advertising:

Advertising is a way to pay a company to get your message across; you are paying somebody to promote your product through the media. Something that you need to know about advertising is that it is used in all types of the media, so that means advertisements can include printed advertisements, video advertisements, television advertisements, etc.

Something else that you need to be aware of when it comes to advertising is that advertising is a great way to reach a large amount of people. The problem with advertising is that you sometimes end up wasting money because you are reaching people who are not a part of your target market. On the other hand, you are increasing your customer base by reaching as many people as possible. With advertising, you are telling people about how good your product is and how they should buy it.

Marketing:

Marketing is everything that you do to put your product or service into the hands of your customers. What this means is that marketing is going to cover a huge group of things that you need to do to get your product or service out to your customers. This means that marketing is going to cover public relations, advertising, packaging your product and everything else in between. Something that you need to be aware of when it comes to marketing is that marketing is a strategy that you are going to need to use to find the right people to convince about your product. Marketing is a way for you to convince people that your product is the best product on the market and that they should buy it for a variety of reasons, you are attracting a certain group of people to your product through marketing.

Promoting:

Promoting is something that you are going to do to encourage people to buy your product. Promoting is where you tell all of your potential customers all of the good things about your product and all the good things about your company. What you are doing is creating hype about your product by encouraging people about it. In fact promoting is actually a part of advertising because you have to promote your product in the advertisements that you create.

Difference:

The main difference between these three terms is that advertising and promoting are a part of marketing, which means you cannot have a good marketing plan that does not include advertising or promoting, just like you cannot create advertisements without promoting your product. The fact of the matter is that advertising, promoting and marketing all have the same overall goal, and that is to get your product or service out to the public's attention. The main difference is how they each go about making your product noticeable to the public.
