Take time to relax with your staff. Since most small businesses cannot afford to pay for expensive dinners, try throwing some pot-luck lunches with your staff. You are the face of the company and people will look to you for inspiration and direction. Try to avoid over-working yourself, which can be hard considering the different roles you have to take on.

As a small business owner you should know each employees role in the company and stress their importance to helping each other. If your marketing associate is slacking, your art department is probably being slowed down. Discuss with each employee how their job impacts another person's job and the overall productivity of the company.

Tip # 5 - Plan for the future
Developing good programs is another large part of a small business owner's job. Without a good program, you will find it hard to gain the money you need just to break even Utilize every person at your company for help with developing and maintaining new programs and products. Create a good marketing plan that clearly explains where you plan to take the company in the next year. You also need to include information about where you see the company in 3 years, 5 years, and even 10 years. The goals you include need to be realistic or else this can cause feelings of hopelessness in the office. You need to maintain a positive attitude about the future as everyone at the company will be looking at you to lead them there.
