How to hang onto your good employees
Employee turnover leaves people worried about their futures. They have to pick up the extra slack that the other employee leaves behind and they also need to worry about trying to train new employees. This can be incredibly stressful on your good employees and can cause them to leave as well because they are tired of being the fall guy for everyone else that leaves. Encourage positivity from the top. As the manager you are in charge of setting the way the company will run. You will need to show your employees that the office is a lot of fun and you will set the tone through your personality and hard work. You can learn how to do this by attending training seminars and conferences where you can learn great employee retention tips and tools. To keep your good employees your need to focus on getting them involved with the company. What are you doing to make them feel important and like they are a part of the company? Are you asking them to voice their opinions in staff meeting and to find out what they think about some of the things going on within the company? Challenge your employees. You want them to feel needed and a great way to do this is by setting goals for them. This gives them something to look forward to and something to work for. Make sure they are involved when you are establishing the goals so they can feel like they are a part of it. Since they are in charge of setting their own goals, there is no one to blame but themselves if they do not accomplish them. As the manager you are here to lead and guide them but the end result is up to them and how hard they want to work. Support is another way to strengthen relationships with your employees. Supporting your employees and getting involved in their lives is a simple way to let them know that you truly care about them and you want the best for them and their families. How can you offer support to your employees? Attending training seminars will also be able to help you learn new ways to get in touch with your employees and to provide them with the right type of support they need. Offer great perks for your staff. Creative perks like time off, employee discounts, and other small benefits can motivate your staff and it will be able to provide you with stronger relationships with your employees. Perks give them something to look forward to and it's a simple way for you to go out of your way to get in touch with your employees. Can you afford to offer bigger perks like pension plans and insurance? While you might not be able to afford these larger perks you can do a wellness program and flex time. |
