How to stay connected and on the same page with your small business employees
Staying connected with the employees doesn't mean that you need to be present and watch every move your employees make.
It's also important as a small business owner that you keep each other informed and updated using the new and improved technology tools such as email, phone, written report, bulletin boards, etc. Create a list of goals that your employees need to accomplish. This will allow them to prioritize their work more efficiently, and organize what's expected of them. If you happen to notice a problem, try to deal with it effectively and directly in a very nice way. Don't let any of your employees feel bad about the problem, but instead take that opportunity to teach him. Recognize his value and continually encourage him rather than look for the negative. If you don't have good management skills, your employees will not be happy. Some may think of quitting and others may lose interest in improving their performance. Treat your employees with respect and in return they will give their best effort to increase productivity. Hold reviews with your employees once a year. This is a great opportunity for you to let each individual employee know how he's doing. In this review, try to stay positive, acknowledge his efforts, praise him for fulfilling your expectations and encourage him toward individual success and responsibility. Consider a self-review, where the employee rates himself on the same criteria as your review of him. Create an environment that keeps people feeling connected to the business's goals and mission. Let your employees be part of the success of your business. Involve them in changes and improvements of the product or service that need to be made. Help them stay focused and help them target their knowledge to improve the mission of the business. Create and circulate newsletters that can inform your employees of up-coming events, goals and accomplishments. The success of your small business solely depends on how the information is being carried and distributed among each employee. You and your employees can use the fastest way such as the phone, the email, and the cell phone to exchange ideas, comments, changes, and improvement. This way of communication can also be used to send positive thoughts and encouragement.
