Small business owners are often forced to deal with multiple job descriptions. If you are lacking in marketing ideas it helps to understand various types of marketing along with what needs to be done in order to help you build your reputation. Every small business owner needs to understand how marketing works and what needs to be done for their business to make a mark in their niche industry.

Locate your customers
The first thing you need to do is look for your niche market. Where are your customers? If you have a hard time locating them locally you can easily locate them online. With most of the worlds customers using the internet in one way or another, one of your Pay Per Click ads is bound to pay off for you. It is important to research your niche market and to find out what type of keywords they are using so that you can optimize your website and make it easier for them to find you.

Offline Marketing
You also need to look at your offline marketing efforts to see which ones are working. It is important that you consider all of your customers needs and look for ways to reach out to them. Some may be older and rely on mailed messages versus using the internet to learn about your company. You have to place an emphasis on offline marketing efforts to invest in the programs that will be able to make money for you and will actually reach your customers.

Cell Phone Marketing
Right now there are only about 3 out of 10 businesses that are using cell phone marketing to reach their customers. If you are not using mobile marketing you are really missing out. You have to turn to this in order to make your voice heard and to really reach out to your customers. Consider what you are using cell phone marketing for and what types of messages you are sending. If you are not sending messages that are valuable you will not get a response. With cell phone marketing you are given exclusive access to your customers so you do need to work on getting the right type of response by sending them a message that will interest them. When you compare mobile marketing to other marketing options, you will easily save yourself a ton of money and your reputation will grow because of it!

Ask the Customer
Want to know what the customer wants and how you can get your message out to them? Ask them! This is one of the best ways in which you can actually get a response from your customers and it really doesn't take a lot of time or effort. Create a survey and send it out on your social media page along with emails and other things. When you gather the information from the customers be sure to acknowledge this information so the customers know that you are actually listening to them.

Referral Marketing
If your leads are drying up, turn to your existing customers for help. They have a lot of contacts that they can hand over if you give up the right incentive. You need to use referral marketing to gather up a list of a lot of new leads for your sales team to work with.
