Does videocasting take a lot of room on your hard drive?

internalcdplayer36824792.jpg
In answer to the question: Does videocasting take a lot of room on your harddrive? I would say no, not unless you want it to. Videocasts were created to be viewed on portable pods, or viewing devices such as iPods and other MP3 players. While some of these have incredible amounts of storage, most support less than 30 or so GB. So, in order to have them be capable of videocasting, the files cast need to be small enough to fit on these devices. So, if you are using your home computer, or even a laptop or notebook, you will likely have plenty of room on your hard drive for storing your videocasting files.

One thing to keep in mind if you are worried about the amount of space you have on your hard drive is the fact that videocasting can be instant via streaming, or can be downloaded and saved for future times, or viewed over and over.

How you set up your podcast depends on what type of program you are using to publish your podcast. There are various websites that offer you the option of setting up your podcast, which one you choose depends on what you are looking for and how experienced you are at podcasting. Most new users tend to use Blogger to set up their podcast because it is a free service and actually very easy to use. But some other good places to set up your podcast are Wordpress and Movable Type.

Before you can set up your podcast you are going to have to create your podcast. This means that you are going to have to record your audio file and convert it to MP3 format before doing anything else. After you have converted the file to MP3 format you are going to have to have to export that file to a web server. Like most podcasting software there are plenty of choices to use to export your file to a web server, one of the most commonly used is Audacity. This software allows you to create and edit your podcast as well as convert it to MP3 format (with the LAME plug in) and then export that file to the web server of your choice.

girlwithipod39174142.jpg
Podcasting is an audio file, usually an MP3, that is connected to an RSS feed, what makes it a podcast instead of an MP3 is the RSS feed that allows subscribers to be notified whenever new or updated material is available. MP3 files do not have the RSS feed feature so listeners must manually search for any new files or materials that are in MP3 format. But to be honest podcasting would not be around if it were not for MP3 files and RSS feeds, MP3's can stand alone but podcasts can not.
