AOL Member Directory

AOL - America On Line offers a Member Directory.It is a collection of profiles about AOL members which can be updated or removed at any time. It is a search-able database that will help you locate people who have some of the same interests that you have.If an AOL Member has not created a profile, they will not appear in your search results.

How will you go about creating a member profile?On the People menu, click on the Member Directory button.On the Search Profiles window, click My Profile, and they type your information.Give as much information about yourself as possible, so that people will want to know more about you. Be sure not to give too much personal information, as this information will be available to everyone with AOL.When you are finished, click Save.

You can also include pictures of yourself and your hobby.Hopefully the member you are interested will have pictures for you to view.To view picturesyou will click on the Pictures tab.If there are no pictures posted by the AOL Member, the word Pictures will be grayed out.
It is possible to view your own profile; to do this, click on My Directory Listing on the Settings menu.

You will want to chat with others who share your same interests.You can do this through Chat A Chat - with group members through People Connection rooms, conference rooms, and online events.When you sign on you will click "invite me to chat" with AOL members who have the same interests.AOL will do the checking for you and when they find matches they will let you know so you can start chatting with them.

But, how do you go about finding members using Search?Go to the People menu and click on Member Directory.Then you can either type any word of your interests in the box, and AOL will do the searching to find people with your same interests.Or, you can narrow your search by clicking on the Show Advanced Search link.You will then type in more specific information about yourself, such as your hobbies, and occupation. You could include your gender, and marital status and the general location where you live. By doing this you may find that people who share your interests live near you.With your own profile, you can tell the world who you are and what interests you.Be sure to click on the Search button when you are finished.

You will want to be careful with information you are giving online.You will want to protect yourself against any dangers.Sometimes you will view something that is offensive to you.Rather thanignoring this, it would be a good idea to report it to AOL.

On the Search Result window, you will select a name of a person you will be interested in contacting.When you do, click on View Profile and you will be able to see their information.When you click "Locate Member" you will see if they are online.If they are, you will know which chat room they are in and you will be able to strike up a conversation with them.

With your Membership you will know that AOL will protect your privacy.They will not share any of your information about where you navigate on AOL or on the Web.They do not give out your phone or credit card information unless authorized.They have programs to protect your children and their privacy.
