BodyMedia brings new additions to smart phones

cellphones37033895.jpg Everyone has a desire to get into better shape and do what they can to properly care for their body. With gaming systems like the Wii Fit and other things to encourage people to get up and move and to lose weight, it was only a matter of time before mobile devices started integrating applications that encourage people to lose weight and stay in shape.

BodyMedia, a large sensor company has created body sensors that will stay in contact with your smartphone. All you need to do is wear a wristband device and it will send data back to your smartphone about the shape your body is in, allowing you to see how many steps you have taken, how many calories you have burned, how much physical activity you should be getting and what you are actually getting. It can also relay information about your body heat along with the amount of sleep you are getting and what needs to be done. It will collect data from your body all day long and send it to your phone where it is organized into an exercise and healthy living program, allowing you to see what you are doing right and where you need to work on improving.

BodyMedia has been around for 11 years now and they have continually produced devices that help you learn more about your body. Many of the original devices were wristband watches that allowed you to see your heart rate and other things then they came up with devices to track how many steps you take in a day. When their devices started collecting more data, you would need to plug them into your computer and download the information into a program. Now with smartphones and wireless capabilities, you will have all the information in seconds. This helps you to change your behaviors for the day if you notice that you aren't eating right or if you haven't gotten in the proper amount of exercise for the day. It pushes you to work harder and to see statistical information right then and there so you can see how you are helping your body.

The new app is not only available to your smartphone, it can integrate with your Bluetooth device. The Bluetooth device is about $249 and you will pay a monthly data charge to use it but the cost is only about $84 a year. The device is on sale now and you can purchase it directly from bodymedia.com. You can even order different skins for the device to go on your arm and it's your decision as to whether or not you want to device to have the reading right on it or to have it all sent to your phone.

The goal of BodyMedia is to get it's customers into shape. For this purpose some businesses are looking into the impact this device can have on it's employees as healthcare costs continue to cost companies millions of dollars a year. By launching new health programs that include BodyMedia devices, companies can easily see how well their employees are doing with the exercise and weight loss programs and provide them with effective rewards for their hard work.

Individuals with diabetes will be happy to see that BodyMedia and several other sensor technology companies are working on new programs that will track their glucose levels, without needing to actually prick their finger to get the reading. These newer devices include laser technology that will scan the blood and provide the information you need to see in order to make better eating decisions along with timing your insulin injections in order to have a proper balance of your blood sugar and to manage your diabetes effectively.
