Choosing a digital video camera. Getting the right digital video camera for the type of recording you want to do is the key. With all of the different options are available it can be somewhat difficult to know what you need. The process of film and video making is becoming increasingly easier with the technical advances that have been made for the digital cameras and editing software alike.

With this in mind, it is great to know that making your own movies will be more fun rather than difficult now. In order to get started making your own movies, it will be important to purchase a good digital video camera.

Here are some of the basics you will want to look for when you purchase your digital video camera.

When you start out looking, the lens is the best place. The lens needs to be at least the 3X for the most basic snap shots. However, for good picture, you need at least 6X to 10X zoom.

In addition to the zoom, you will want to look at maximum aperture setting of f-1.8 to f-2.8 for the f-stop. The lower the f-stop the better.

After you have gotten the lens you wanted, you can go ahead and move on to the sensor. The sensor is the place that light goes to after it goes through the lens. The sensor is going to be CCD or CMOS. The sensor has photosensitive pixels that cover the top. Higher resolution creates a higher quality picture.

Memory or Media is the next area to focus on. The more memory or media space you have, the more pictures or videos you can make. Even though you will likely be transferring the video to your personal computer, there will be times that it is not convenient to run to your computer.

Most of the time the higher end digital video camcorders have an LCD screen. However, there are many that have just a Viewfinder. Both work well, however the LCD screen is convenient.

Most of the batteries you will get for your digital video recorder will need to be rechargeable. The main thing to remember where batteries are concerned is to fully charge them, in addition to making sure that you do not mix old batteries with new batteries. Different digital camcorders use different batteries. So, be sure to check for the type you will need, and get extras. It is very bad, if you ran out of batteries before you are done recording and lose great lighting because of it.
Lighting is very important. Your digital camera may have a flash, however if you want great lighting you may need to pick up some additional lights.

Sound is probably the most important aspect necessary for the videos you make. Because, even if a video is not perfect, if you can hear the video well, you are more likely to keep watching it. This is because you can understand what is happening. So with this in mind, if your digital video recorder does not have a great microphone, then you will want to get a good microphone that you can use with your recordings.

There are many different things you can look at as far as digital camcorders go. There are many reviews that give you some great information on the different camcorders. However, checking out the options in the store may show you a little more. Because you will be able to see how the camcorder fits in your hand, and with your own needs in mind.
