Common Problems with Video Podcasting

Video podcasting, also known as vidcast or vodcast, is a newer form of video feed that goes through the traditionally audio based podcast. As with anything new, there are always glitches to be worked out. Some common problems that people are having are:

  1. Common technical problems that most new electronic devices can have.Error messages, volume problems and formatting problems. The original video has to get compressed into a new smaller file, so unless you have the right formatting tools to view the new file, there are going to be some problems.
  2. Video podcasting is broadcast on mostly ipod type devices. These devices are very small and fragile. They have been known to freeze and have had hard drive problems. In most cases you need to erase all of your data, but sometimes you just have to hope your warranty is still good and get a new one.
  3. Error messages are occurring mostly when trying to download. The messages most commonly received are "files are not the right format" or "files may be corrupted".
  4. Creating an actual video to put onto a podcast is a tricky process. The most common problem with this is that as of right now there are only two formats that are supported. You cannot just use regular formats like windows media player, but there are programs out there that can help you change the formats over to what is needed.
  5. Interference and static.Just like the audio podcast, there are problems with frequencies and bandwidths. It has been said that UHF is better than VHF, but that fact is not actually true.UHF is at a higher frequency and electronics that use this are usually more expensive.Since they are more expensive, less people use it, which makes it work better. The less people on the same frequencies, the less static and interference you will have.
Besides these technical issues in video podcasting, there has been some concern as to what the new video market will do the audio market. Will people need or want to listen to anything anymore, when they can just watch it?The answer is yes.As long as we are driving cars and trying to do our jobs, our eyes need to stay focused on the task at hand.Plus, after all of these years we still listen to radios even though we have TV's and movies to watch. It should not be any different then this, but I guess only time will tell.

How much progression in electronics is too much?I don't know, but it seems like human beings are pushing themselves to the limit as to how much multi-tasking one can do.When cell phones first came out, everyone was on them. Now, in some states and on military bases, you can't use them while driving. Some restaurants have banned them from being used while people are trying to eat.Remember how rude we all thought it was at first for people to be talking to others while standing in a line, or while we were trying to talk with them?Just think of our future when people are actually watching videos on podcasts, instead interacting with real human beings in a store or walking down the street.I guess as with any new gadget everything is by trial and error, but it just seems to me there should be some limit put on how much stimulation we give our brains. Our brains are the most fascinating and greatest instrument we will ever use.Maybe we should try and use it for awhile and see what amazing images and ideas we can come up with on our own.
