Compare Satellite TV

When deciding which satellite TV to go with, consumers basically have two options - Dish Network or Direct TV. These are the main providers of satellite television. Both have loyal followers, so deciding which one is best for you is simply a matter of taste.

For the most part, Dish Network and Direct TV are pretty similar as far as pricing and channels is concerned. Direct TV is generally a little more expensive per month than Dish Network is; however, it has several channel and programming options that you wouldn't be able to get with Dish Network.

As far as system capabilities go, neither system is "better" than the other. Here are some of the main differences for offers (keep in mind that each company utilizes independent dealers; as a general rule, however, the following are the most common):

Direct TV

  • Direct TV offers the Standard Direct TV System for up to 4 Rooms, or the customer can opt for a free Direct TV DVR System for up to 4 Rooms, which includes 3 standard receivers and a Direct TV DVR Receiver. This is usually after the rebate, so the savings aren't instantaneous.

  • Standard Professional Installation. A certified technician will set up each system and receiver in the rooms you've chosen.

  • Free shipping and delivery, after rebate

  • Some incentives include your choice of a Home Theater/DVD System, DVD Player, Digital Camera or $1000 Shopping Spree.

  • A Free Advanced Triple LNB Dish is also included (this is the satellite dish that will be receiving your signals.

Dish Network

  • Dish Network offers free equipment for up to four rooms, as well as free HDTV and free DVR

  • The basic package cost is $19.99 per month for 60 Channels. This includes 25 free movie channels, including favorites like HBO, Showtime and Cinemax.

Keep in mind that this is a general idea of various promotions and features. While satellite TV often offers more channels, many times a good portion of these channels are called fillers, or channels people don't normally watch. For example, a satellite company may offer 60 channels for $19.99 a month, but upon closer inspection of the channels, customers will see that many of the channels are actually fillers. The 60 channels for $19.99 package may include 5 different home shopping channels and another 4 or 5 channels that are local programming or station guides.

Finding the Best Deal
Once you've narrowed it down to either Dish Network or Direct TV, it's time to find a dealer. Both companies utilize authorized dealers to sell their services and equipment. Like most companies, these satellite dealers are in competition with each other and try to attract customers by providing a number of incentives, like free equipment or installation. Companies have deals like this all the time, so there really is no reason to have to pay for installation or equipment. Finding the best satellite deal takes a little research and, in some cases, a little time while you wait for the right deal or promotion to come around.

It's important to do research when comparing satellite TV. The best deals will offer a variety of free things, like free equipment, free channel upgrades, and free warranties. In addition, good deals will also offer things like two rooms for one price, HD receivers, and DVR receivers.

When comparing satellite companies, it's important to take into consideration a variety of things, including the channels and programming you want, advanced capabilities, and budget.
