Cut your heating bills with glass roof heating tiles

If you are like most Americans, your heating bill continues to go up each year. With the high cost of energy and millions of people looking for new ways to try and conserve energy, it has sparked a wave of re-insulating your home, installing solar panels, turning down the heat, and many other things. Something that has been used for years but is just starting to re-appear is using glass roof heating tiles. A glass roof will attract and trap the sunlight, keeping your home warmer and it's less likely to let the heat escape.

Soltech Energy, a Swedish company, has redesigned the glass roof tiles to make them more efficient and to be used as heating devices. The glass tiles are make completely out of glass and they are equivalent to the weight of clay roof tiles. The sun will shine on the tiles, which collect the heat and send it into the home.

For the tiles to "stick" to your home you must first install a black fabric on the roof. The fabric is what does most of the work as it is responsible for absorbing the suns heat and sending it into the home. Then the glass tiles are installed on the top of the fabric to secure the heat and prevent it from escaping. Since the glass tiles are transparent, it simply looks like you re-covered your roof and it's not that noticeable to most passerby's.

In order for this system to work you will need to have some type of central heating system where the air is able to circulate throughout the home. This way the home will be warm in the winter as the air is sent through your heating system and released through the vents into the various rooms. It can stay cool in the summer as the hot air that is trapped will be redirected to the vent system in the home and sent out of home so it doesn't heat it year-round.

While the glass roof heating tiles aren't going to make your home toasty warm all the time, they can significantly reduce the amount of energy you need to use. The home will also be able to stay warmer during the months when the weather starts to cool off and you aren't quite ready to start turning on your furnace and fireplace to warm up the home.

Is your home a candidate for the glass roof heating tiles? It depends on the angle of the roof, your location, and several other factors that can be found from Soltech Energy. However some home that cannot qualify for the solar heating tiles may be able to qualify for another glass roof that they have developed. This one is glass panels, looking quite similar to solar panels but they aren't nearly as boxy and bulky to place on the roof. They can capture the sun's rays year round even if it is the winter and you aren't able to acquire as much warmth in your home as the sun is blocked by the clouds often.

Soltech Energy has several other environmentally-friendly products in the work and they are looking for new and innovative ways to try and save energy. The glass roof heating tiles have been named the "hottest new material for 2010" and it won't be long before you start seeing several homes in the United States with these unique heating tiles. One another benefit you can expect besides lower utility bills and potential tax credits. Homes that have upgraded to solar energy receive generous tax credits and you may be able to actually get a tax refund by installing a glass solar roof on your home.
