When you are considering purchasing a telephone recorder, there are a few things you want to consider. Just any old telephone call recorder is not going to work. If you do not consider appropriate features in a telephone recorder, you might miss out on the security a telephone recorder can give, and waste your time and money purchasing a recorder that will not work for your needs. Before ever considering the purchase of a telephone call recorder, consider the following:

Ease of installation. If it is too difficult to install, you will never use it. You do not want to have to be an IT professional, or electronic whiz to be able to install the equipment. Basically, you want to look for something that can be installed and usable within a matter of a few minutes, not hours. You want to make sure that any instructions included are easy to follow. Consider the fact that if you can't install it, you will not be able to use it. This should be a huge concern.

Ease of use. Once your telephone call recorder is installed, you have to make sure it is easy to use. You will want to look for a telephone call recorder that provides both automatic and manual use. For example, you want to be able to set it to record every phone call that comes in on the line, as well as be able to manually record those of your choosing when you do not have it automatically set up to record all calls. Besides the actual ease in recording, you also want to ensure that after calls have been recorded that playing them back is easy. You want to make sure you can store them easily, find the recordings you want, etc. If it is too complicated to use your telephone call recorder once it is installed, you won't. So look for one that is easy to use meaning that it records into a usable format such as an MP3 or at least comes with easy to use software that allows you to convert the file. You want a recorder that compresses files automatically so you can send them via email, etc. Basically the easier it is for you to use, the more you will use it, and thus the better value for your money.

No clicks, beeps, etc. If you are going to go to the trouble of recording phone calls, tapping your own lines or someone else's, you want to ensure there is nothing that will alert the people on the phone of your recorder. Some recorders click when they start recording, beep, or make other noises that can alert the people to your presence. You want to choose a phone call recorder that makes no clicks, beeps, or noises that gives the recorder away.

Quality sound. When you use a telephone recorder you are recording the conversation taking place on the phone. This poses the problem of not getting good sound reception on both ends of the conversation. When you look at a telephone recorder, one of the features you want to consider is the quality of the microphone. You want to ensure the sound quality is high, and that both ends of the conversation are going to be clear, well captured, and with minimal static and interruption.

Your specific needs may require you consider other features such as the size of the recorder or how many lines it can capture, but in general, these are the features to look for in a telephone recorder.
