If people had to choose which entertainment device they used the most it would more than likely be the television. Four billion people across the world watch TV and the average American spends five hours per day watching one. However an increasing amount of our entertainment experience is coming from our phones and computers. One Reason is that these devices have something that the TV lacks. What does the TV lack? The web, finding and accessing interesting content is fast and often as easy as a search. But the web still lacks a great feature which is high quality viewing that the TV offers. So that alone helped come up with a resolution, Google TV.

To start Google was founded in 1998 by Stanford Ph.D. students Larry Page and Sergy Brin. Google's innovative search technologies connected millions of people around the world with information. Ever since the internet has become a part of peoples everyday lives, over the past decade, the internet has created amazing opportunity for innovation and development across the world. But there is one place that the internet has not connected with the everyday lifestyle and that is being present in the living room. Sony Corporation is a leading manufacturer of audio, video, game, communications, etc. Sony is uniquely positioned to be the leading electronics and entertainment company in the world. Now that Sony and Google TV have decided to combine their technology and create internet access from a TV, consumers will be able to search and watch an expanded universe of content. Google TV is based on the android platform and runs the Google Chrome web browser. Google TV users can still access all of their usual TV channels as well as a world of internet, and applications. These applications may include Adobe Flash based content all from the comfort of their living room, and with the same simplicity as browsing the web. Google TV expands video choice from hundreds of channels available today through a pay TV provider to the vast storehouse of video content available through the web and streaming videos. Google TV has the ability to watch streaming video for leading content platforms. This includes

  • Netflix

  • Amazon video on demand

  • YouTube

Although technology is efficient people are still skeptical on this new development. The most commonly asked questions regarding the merge of Google TV and Sony. Is it network-ready? Google TV needs the internet to work, and Sony will deliver internet-ready TVs and Blu-ray players. Will advertisers have too much control? Google described the wonderful new world that's opened up to advertisers who from a web page on Google TV can potentially switch to a favorite channel or record a show. Will you be able to access local content? Google TV seamlessly blends web and TV content giving you full access to online accounts, including Netflix, YouTube, and Flickr. What it doesn't appear to offer you is local access. Many people have most of their photos on a local pc or network attached storage. Can it print? Google TV combines the web and TV but it doesn't appear to combine TV, the web, and computing. Is it social? Google TV lets you use many of your favorite android apps directly on the platform. This makes Google TV extensible, but it doesn't ensure that you can interact with other viewers on a social level. With technology continuing to improve and grow, this is an exciting development for the entire TV ecosystem. By giving people the power to experience what they love on TV and on the web on a single screen.

The cost of the Sony TV with Google is estimated to be around $599 but additional features to the television such as size and Plasma or LCD are still being determined.
