Help - how do I fix my Hotmail sign in problems?

Technology and computers have been a blessing for many people. Email is just one form of that technology that has simplified life by allowing us to communicate instantly, send information and files, and much more with just a few clicks. Many people-roughly over 30 million in a number of different countries-turn to Hotmail to send and receive their emails.

However, like most things having to do with technology, there are bound to be a few glitches every now and then, and Hotmail is no exception. Occasionally, people have trouble signing in to check their emails.

If you're having trouble signing in, you can click on the "Help" link found above the sign-in area on the Hotmail home page. It will address common problems with signing in and tell you what steps to take to fix your Hotmail sign-in problems.

You may also want to consider the following hints, which help to solve the most common problems with signing into Hotmail:
- Check the email address. Hotmail will have you enter in your email address. Check to make sure it's spelled correctly. In addition, make sure the entire email address is typed into the box. This includes the @ sign and the domain name (such as janedoe@hotmail.com). In complete email addresses or those that are misspelled will not register with the site.
- In addition, check your password. It's easy to mistype your password. Keep in mind as well that passwords are case sensitive, meaning that it makes a difference if you type a lower case letter instead of an uppercase one-if your password has the letter "D" in it, a "d" won't work. If you forgot your password, you can click on the link that tells you what to do if you forgot your username/password, and then reset it.
- Check the network. Sometimes, the Windows Live ID network, which enables you to sign in, is down. If this is the case, try back again a little later. Also, make sure the problem doesn't lie with the service provider. Refresh the page; if a white screen that says, "This page cannot be displayed" comes up, it is most likely because your internet service is down.
- Make sure the site has the Windows Live symbol on it.
- Make sure you still have an account. If it has been a long time since you've accessed your email account, it may have been deactivated. If you think this is the case, you can go to the Hotmail website and sign up for a new account.
- Check to see your browser allows cookies. These are files created by websites that store information. You will need cookies enabled to be able to sign in. TO see, go to Tools, Internet Options, and Privacy. In the Privacy section, you can then configure your browser to allow cookies. If you're using a public or shared computer, you can click on the Always Allow Session Cookies checkbox if prompted.
- Sign out completely and sign back in again. Sometimes this works. Double check your passwords.

These solutions will take care of the majority of sign-on problems you may be having with hotmail. If none of the above work, you may wish to contact Hotmail's customer support service. They can help you answer any questions you may have or help you to open a new hotmail account altogether.
