How can I get AIM mail?

AIM mail is one type of email service that is growing in popularity. AIM stands for AOL Instant Messenger, a popular instant messaging provider. Users sign up with this service, which is free, and add friends to their contact lists via their email addresses or AIM usernames. Because AIM is free, it is supported by advertisement. Those who are hooked up to AIM can communicate with each other through written text typed on their keyboard, voice transmission, or video.

AIM Mail is an email service provided by AIM for free. Users sign up for AIM mail and receive the following features:

1. A large 2 GB inbox
2. The ability to send up to 16 MB in attachments
3. Spam protection
4. Virus protection from incoming messages
5. Spell checking on messages
6. Integration with AIM presence
7. The "message un-send" capability, as long as the message is sent to another AOL or AIM mailbox.

Many people like AIM Mail because it provides an easy to use interface, high security features, and the audible "You've got mail" that so many people are familiar with. If you'd like to sign up for AIM Mail, you can do so in the following ways:
1. Go to the AOL mail website and click on the "Get Free AOL Mail" link.
2. From there, you will be directed to a page that asks you for your information. You will fill in your name and then be prompted to choose a user name and password. Your username will be your new email address. Many people choose their name, or a variation of it. Keep in mind however that many of these names will be taken, so you can add variation to it. Keep trying until you get the one you want. It's important to keep in mind as well the image you want to portray, especially if you plan on using your email address to send resumes to employers or emails to people you don't know very well.
3. Once you've chosen an email address, you can then decide on a password. This should be something that is not easily guessed. Avoid using your name or birth date. Instead, choose a combination of letters, dates, or words that will be easy for you to remember but difficult for anyone to guess.
4. From there, you will be asked to give some information that will help you retrieve your password in case it is lost. You will be asked to provide a secondary email address, so your password can be sent there. You will also be asked to answer a security question, such as the name of your school, the first job you held, or your favorite pet's name. If you didn't provide a secondary email address, your security question is asked in the event you lose your password.
5. You will then fill out your phone number, birth date, gender, and zip code.
6. Next, you will be asked to read over the Service Agreement, which tells you what you are agreeing to do and not to do with your AIM mail account. It's important to read over this agreement carefully, as checking the box holds you liable for the information you agreed to.

Following these easy steps will give you an AIM mail box as well as a screen name that will enable you to access any of AIM or AOL's other popular features.
