The back up system needs to be affordable.After all, the idea is that you hope to never need to use a back up file, you shouldn't be spending a lot of money to set one up.And lastly, you need a back up file that is going to be easy to set up, someway of backing up all of your information that is going to be easy enough so that you are motivated to actually get it done on a regular basis. The easiest and most cost effective way to back up digital video is to upload the video to your computer and then to burn a compact disk of that information.A good idea is to make multiple copies of your back up files and to send them to people that you are close to.If the worst were to happen and all of your belongings were destroyed, at least your digital video files would be preserved by the individuals who received the back up copies to safeguard. There are many different options available when it comes to choosing the type of disk or tape that you choose to back up your files on.One example is that original mini DV tapes can be backed up on DVD-R disks.This relatively economical solution is less common and less expensive than more sophisticated data archival systems that are used for legal and business purposes.Systems specifically designed for this type of long term back up and storage may not be affordable for the average non-business type use of a digital video recorder. In summary, it is best never to rely on a system such as a hard drive in your computer or the hand held recorder itself to safeguard your memories.Nothing is fail proof.You need to protect yourself from the imperfections of technology by having a back up of all your important digital files.
