How to best care for your digital camera? Being that a digital camera and the accessories can cost several hundred even thousands of dollars. It is imperative to protect that investment by learning to best care for your digital camera.

To best start the care for your digital camera, it begins with the basic care and maintenance. This includes wiping the camera off after each use. You should use a dry cloth when you are wiping it off. Never use an abrasive cleaner or material on the camera. It is important to use caution with the use of the camera. Use a good carrying case for the protection of the camera during transporting.

When you are working the digital sensor cleaning, it is a good idea to sit and a clear table with plenty of room. Use a bright overhead light or desk lamp, which will give you plenty of light. With the sensor exposed, you will want to start the sensor-cleaning mode. You will want to look in your user's manual to find out if you need to have the AC adapter plugged in. You will then want to gently blow away the dust from your camera. This is done with a small can of air or a small blower.

Any material you use to clean your camera should be something that is lint free. This way you can prevent the lint from getting into the small areas of the camera. If by chance you do not use a lint free cloth, then you will likely be spending several hours picking the lint out of the areas of your camera.

The most important area of your camera is the lens. You need to make sure to maintain great care in this area. The lens needs to be prevented of scratches, breaks, and dings. This is also an area that if dirt, lint etc were to get on it, then it would make taking wonderful pictures more difficult.

Keep the camera and batteries out of heat of 110 degrees or more. During the hot summer months, it is a bad idea to leave your digital camera in the car. It is better to keep it in cool places.

It is also important to never over charge your batteries. You will also want to recharge your batteries before and after long-term storage. Batteries naturally lose their charge over time.

Try very hard to never mix old batteries and new batteries. This can cause a drain in the batteries. It is also a good idea to charge batteries in pairs.

Finally make sure to take extra batteries with you on your picture taking outings. You do not want to get to where you are going and not be able to take the pictures you wanted.
For the best and most permanent protection of the lens of your digital camera, put a UV filter on your camera. When you clean the lens, and UV filter, use special care as to not damage the system. The coating on the front element is easily damages. So make sure to stay away from harsh cleaners.

If your digital camera is going to be in the weather a great deal, be sure to weatherize it. There are weatherproof cases, covers, etc. If you want to make one for your self, you can use a heavy gauge plastic bag. Just be aware that not all cases are waterproof. Water can hurt your camera and be irreparable.
