How To Expand The Life Of Your Laptop

It's important to know when you make a big investment into a nice laptop that you're going to be able to use that investment for years to come. There are a couple of things you need to keep in mind when you get a laptop, and things you should make sure that you do to ensure that your laptop will live a long and good life.

The first thing you need to do happens the moment you buy your laptop, and that is finding a good warranty service. If you're willing to spend a little extra money for a warranty that will last a good long time, you're saving yourself from probably having to buy another laptop, and warranties can also help your laptop work well for the years to come. It removes the terror out of accidentally dropping the laptop, as you know that you're laptop can be fixed and repaired for you. It's nice to know you have the warranty, even if you know someone in your family who is decent as repairs, as repair is only half of the cost, the other half being parts.

Apart from a good warranty, you'll also need to keep your laptop safe from a few potential killers. Keep it from staying in the sun too long, as the heat can make your laptop overheat and could melt a few key parts on your laptop, and it's also important to keep it far away from water. Sometimes just a simple spill can prove disastrous for your laptop. It could mess up your screen, or in some cases actually short circuit the whole machine, something you'll definitely want to avoid. Extreme cold, while it might not seem like something to worry about, can actually damage a few of your laptops parts, and it's a good idea to avoid it. Get a good case for your laptop to make sure that it's not getting bumped around when you take it with you, and that it's safe from moisture and cold in your travels. A case also just helps you take external components of your laptop with you, such as a wireless mouse or a web cam.

You'll need to know that a laptop will eventually get outdated, but you don't have to give up on yours just yet. What you can do is look up some newer parts, maybe you could bring your computer up to date with a few more gigabytes of RAM, maybe some the new USB port or DVI port. A new screen can also bring your laptop new life, especially if you get a built in web cam and look into HD options. A faster processing unit (CPU) or graphics processing unit (GPU) can speed up your machine to compete with newer machines. Sometimes though, it can be more costly to bring your computer up to date then it is to get a new one. If you have to look into getting a new motherboard, it's probably a better idea to just look for a new computer out there, or accept that you're laptop isn't going to be able to handle the newest innovations in technology or gaming.

With the right care though, a laptop will last a lifetime, even if it does get outdated. Some other things you can ensure that it gets the right care is to sometimes open it up and dust it off, get a new fan to keep the temperature cool and safe. There's nothing worse than not being able to use a laptop on your lap when the temperature is so hot you're in danger of getting burnt.
