How to get the most out of your digital video camera

To get the most out of your digital video camera takes time and effort to get to know everything that the camera is capable of doing. Most people open the camera box and say "wow, this camera is really flipping sweet...... What does this do?" And most often they never sit down and figure out the answer to the question. Digital video cameras are becoming more and more advanced on the low and high end markets. This means that the camera uncle Pete keeps under the computer desk probably does a whole lot of neat things he isn't even aware of, nor probably ever will know about. What a waste. This doesn't mean you have to be the same way. The moment the camera is in your possession, take the time to get to know it. But more important, take the time to read the manual. This is hard for some men to do because it is easier to figure it out themselves. What a foul misconception. Reading the manual will save hours and hours of confusion and allow the user to immediately enjoy all of the features that were designed to enhance the digital video camera's capabilities.

After reading about the camera in the manual, it's time to try and apply those black and white concepts and make colorful pictures with that shiny new digital video camera. Go somewhere where there are interesting things to video tape while experimenting with the different features of the camera. It is extremely beneficial to practice zoom, light balance, and hand-eye coordination. If these little things can be mastered, than on the spot video taping will look much better. It is pleasing to watch a home made video shot by someone who actually cared about what they were doing. There is a certain level of athleticism that if gained, will greatly help getting more out of the digital camera and its results.

Go onto the internet and read about things people have done to improve the camera. Many companies, including the company that manufactured the camera, make accessories that go along with the camera. Many of these things include lens add-ons, lens filters, external microphones, larger batteries, battery chargers, tripods, remote controls, and cleaning products. Obviously it isn't completely necessary quickly invest in every one of these things, but sometime along the way, it would be beneficial to know that they are available. For example, filming a long school concert can really strain the arm and cause the video to become shaky from natural muscle fatigue. Buying a tripod to attach the camera to would make the shots perfectly still and make video taping a lot more comfortable. Another example would be using a telephoto lens. Let's say your son Jack is running down the field opposite side of where your family is sitting and he is about to score a touchdown. It would be great to get a nice video of it right, not some far away shot that makes him look like a little ant barely moving across the lawn. The telephoto lens would greatly improve the zoom capabilities of the digital video camera and help capture a great shot of the exciting moment.

Whatever the digital video camera is going to be used for, take the time to know what it can and can't do. Plan out what the camera is mostly going to be used for and prepare. Buy whatever is needed to make it fit your needs precisely. From here, you will be able to get the most out of your digital video camera.
