How to improve your landscape photography with a digital camera

Are you interested in landscape photography?Taking landscape photographs with a digital camera can be a really fun and rewarding practice!There are a couple things that you can do to improve your landscape photography with a digital camera.Here are a couple of ideas of what you can do to improve the landscape photography you take with your digital camera:

1. Use the Landscape setting mode on your digital camera:Most digital cameras have a built-in setting mode that you can select before you take your landscape photographs.This setting is also called the "Mountain" setting, and it is sometimes depicted on cameras with a little icon of a mountain.Through landscape mode, the focus is fixed out really far (essentially, it is set to infinity), so it provides the highest sharpness and focus for far-away objects and points-of-interest.
2. Make Your Depth of Field as Large as Possible:Having a significant depth of field will really add presence and substance to your landscape photography.You can do this on your digital camera by setting the shutter to work at a slower speed.One way that you can slow your shutter speed is by choosing a small Aperture setting on your camera (which means using a larger number).By making this change, you will also need to compensate with the light that your camera "takes in," and you will need to make your ISO number larger.
3. Use a tripod:When you are using settings like the ones listed above, you will be having a slower shutter time.Therefore, it is even more critical and important that your camera is completely still when the picture is actually taken.You can ensure that your camera will stay still through the use of a tripod.The tripod can also make sure that your picture is leveled and straight.This is especially important, because your eye can sometimes be fooled to think something is straight when looking at nature, but it actually isn't.If you don't have a tripod and want to take a picture of a landscape, it is best to take a couple of shots one-after-the-other, with each shot being slightly tilted in different directions. Then you will be able to look at your LCD screen and see what picture turned out the straightest!
4. Use the sky to your advantage:Most landscape photographers either use the sky or the foreground of their photograph to their advantage.This can make the photograph appear more compositionally interesting.Always consider what different angles and uses of the sky will do to your landscape photograph - it can really open up your landscape and make it more interesting!
5. Add things to the foreground of your picture:Sometimes adding objects to the foreground of your photography (such as some flowers, leaves, or the trunk of a tree) can add some variety and depth to your landscape photo.If you like, you can have the landscape to stay in sharp focus and have the foreground objects be a little bit out-of-focus.They can then serve as a compositional support to your landscape photograph by framing the scene, without detracting from the subject of your landscape.Or, you can leave everything in the same amount of focus.However, if you don't want objects in the foreground of your photograph, but there are objects in the middle ground of the picture, you also will need to adjust your focus on specific points.Try to focus on the object that is about one-third of the way between the nearest and furthest points of the picture plane.This will help your landscape photograph to come out looking its best, with all of the key points being in the right amount of focus!
