There are people who care about actually learning how to use their digital video cameras but become confused by the manual that comes with the video camera. There are studies that have been done that show many people have trouble learning how to do things by reading directions. They seem to misunderstand or misinterpret the text and become jumbled and irritated and end up not figuring it out at all. If you find yourself to be that kind of person, then you also might be the kind of person that doesn't like reading the manual for your digital video camera. The manual really is the best source to learn how to use all of the features of the video camera, but there are other ways of learning.

One way of learning how to use different features of the camera is to simply mess around with it. Put it up to your face, look through the viewfinder, open the screen, and just play with it. Open up the default menus and read what's under them. It is most likely that you won't know what all of the things mean, but you will be able to figure out what a lot of them are. Try out the different settings and see what happens. From the ones you don't understand, or the ones that you aren't sure about, look them up in the index of the manual. Since you took the time to just familiarize yourself with the camera's setup, it will make the directions more meaningful. Just like directions to get somewhere in your own hometown makes a lot more sense than directions to go somewhere in a strange city. After you feel all of your questions have been answered and you've tried all the features, you're good as gold. But what if you're still confused or maybe you feel like you've missed a feature, or simply can't find a feature that should be in the camera? Now it's time to try something different.

Get onto the computer and look up the model of the digital video camera in a search engine, such as Google.com or Yahoo.com, and try to find a link that will lead to a product overview site. There are many sites available that list different features that products have, review them, and then rate them overall. Hopefully, these things were learned before buying the camera, but if not, it is still beneficial to learn. Once in one of these sites, read about the camera and see what other people have discovered the camera can do. Many times others' creativity will inspire you to try new things with the camera. Many positive features about a camera are not immediately visible until put into a certain situation. These articles are a fantastic way to find out what many of those positive features are from people who have tried the features out. Hopefully this will even excite and motivate you to go out and use the camera more.

Finally, just using the camera as much as possible will help you discover all of the features of the video camera. How to use the features, if not already obvious, will make more sense when the situation arises. For example, if little Timmy comes prancing through the living room in his bunny pajamas and stands in front of a bright window, you will learn that the white balance feature helps the camera focus the light on Timmy, instead of all of the things outside of the window. There are thousands of little situations that will arise that will help make you a better videographer. Gaining this practice and experience will help you to learn how to use all of the features of your digital video camera.
