Inkjet versus laser jet printers

When is comes to choosing a printer which way should go?Inkjet or laser printer? You will find opinions going both ways every where you go.So make a decision for yourself, but it never hurts to keep in mind what everyone has to say.

It seems a pretty general consensus that laser has more benefits than you will get with an inkjet printer. After many surveys and opinion polls it seems that generally, the laser printer is more for your money. Here are a few points that were brought out:

- For black and white printing you will find that laser printers give your more pages for less money, meaning it is less per page to print with a laser printer.Inkjets are in some cases more than twice as expensive per page.
- For color printing, it is a matter of how much you print. If you just print the occasional color page, then keep an old inkjet around for that.If you print lots of color pages on a regular basis then laser is still a better way to go.
- The toner that is used in a laser printer is generally more expensive for one than is an ink cartridge for an inkjet printer. But, the yield can be as much as three times more from one toner.Ink cartridges will cost you more over the course of a year because you will have to replace them much more frequently.
- If you have any sense of urgency, don't even consider an inkjet printer. It takes twice the time to print a page than it does with a laser printer. In a busy office how fast you can get something done makes a big difference.
- If you are printing many pages every day, you will most likely need to replace your inkjet printer more often than you would a laser printer.Laser printers are usually better for high quantities of prints.
- Some people like to get the refilled or remanufactured ink cartridges. These can, but don't always, give you the same quality print. If you are looking at these, they don't affect the per page difference in inkjet and laser printing.Refilled ink cartridges make inkjet printing slightly less per page, but a refilled toner makes laser printing less per page also. The difference is the same just with smaller numbers.
- Which ever printer you choose to go with, make sure you know how much you will be printing approximately each month, it will help determine the size of printer you buy.Again, if you're print out is high then laser will be your best option.
- Another factor to consider is if you just want a printer, or if you would benefit from an all-in-one that has a printer, copier, and fax machine. You can get these in both inkjet and laser. It will affect the cost of the printer, but not the cost of the prints.
- If initial cost is what matters then inkjet will be your choice, but if overall cost is your choice then laser will suit you.Inkjet will be a smaller initial investment, but ink will cost you lots after that.Laser printers are a slightly larger initial investment with fewer costs down the road.
- Inkjet printers are much more likely to have errors. They can get "jammed" or stuck easily and can cause a huge mess.If you have your ink cartridge refilled, beware of black fingers.Leaking and dripping is common for ink cartridges.
- If you don't use your printer all that often, you need to keep in mind that an ink cartridge will dry up over time.If they aren't used quickly enough then they are a wasted investment.Toner doesn't have that problem.
