iPhone security concerns how to make sure your phone does not get hacked

One of the biggest worries about the iPhone ever since it premiered in June 2007 is some rather high profile security concerns about the possibility of hackers being able to get into your iPhone. These security concerns have been based on the ease that people have found to be able to hack into iPhones because of certain security flaws in Mozilla Firefox and Safari when they are accessed through the iPhone.

However, while many consumers have expressed a lot of concern over potential problems with iPhone security, Andrew Jaquith, who is a security analyst with the Yankee Group, has said, "I think [the security concerns have] been exaggerated. You have to start with the observation that many of the people that complain the loudest and say it's a security threat tend to be security companies themselves."Jaquith also has said that the two biggest complaints and security concerns about iPhones-1. That iPhones are not ready to be used on a corporate level due to security concerns; and 2.That iPhones are insecure and able to be hacked into far too easily-are actually overblown, and are nearly as problematic as many people have made these security concerns out to be.Jaquith says that if you really don't want to get an iPhone, security concerns should not be the reason that you decide not to get one.Instead, your decision not to get an iPhone should be based on whether or not you want to support IMAP or the type of VPN that is utilized by the iPhone.

However, even though Jaquith feels that the claims about security concerns have been highly exaggerated, he still says that he feels that there is a need for Apple to realize security patches that can be downloaded onto the iPhone in order to fix problems that are defnitely there; Jaquith also says that Apple should expand both keychain support and identity support for the iPhone. In terms of corporations or enterprises using iPhones, it is recommended that they turn on IMAP-S, along with using L2TP instead of IPSec and also using non-standard ports.

Apples has released a free and downloaded security patch that is designed specifically to fix the possibility of breaching Safari through the iPhone and hacking into the iPhone.According to several reports, this Safari bug was able to actually take control of the iPhone through particular online web pages that contained malicious content. The technical name of the iPhone Safari security update is iPhone v1.0.1 Update CVE-ID: CVE-2007-2400.It is available only for iPhone v1.0.

What this security update patch actually does is stops JavaScript in certain remote web pages from actually modifying other web pages that are outside of the domain of the remote web pages.JavaScript may be allowed to modify a redirected page through a combination of race conditions in page updating and HTTP redirection.Through this redirection and modification, JavaScript may actually be able to read cookies and pages, or to modify those cookies and pages arbitrarily.

Also available is the security update CVE-ID: CVE-2007-3944.This security update will help prevent malicious web pages from executing codes arbitrarily which will then take control of the iPhone. You should also download CVE-ID: CVE-2007-2401.This security update patch will stop malicious websites from allowing cross-site requests, which is an issue that exists in XMLHttpRequest.Further, you should download CVE-ID: CVE-2007-3742, which will prevent URLs from masquerading as websites.CVE-ID: CVE-2007-2399 will stop malicious websites from stopping applications at whim and arbitrarily executing codes.

You can download all of these security patches on Apple's website, along with specific instructions to help you ensure that your phone is properly updated.
