Keeping up to date with the latest digital video equipment

Digital video has come a long way since its humble beginnings. In the 60's digital images were just being utilized by NASA in order to obtain pictures of the face of the moon.Who could have guessed that from the same technology that brought us those first unclear outlines of the moon, we would now be able to film full length movies in digital format and that almost every home in America would have some sort of digital device.

It is actually quite easy to keep up with the latest digital equipment because of the law of supply and demand. In economics we learn that manufacturers want to supply people with the amount of products that will meet demand. In the case of digital video, newer, faster and more sophisticated materials are being demanded by the consumers.Product developers are trying to come up with the latest in digital video in order to satisfy the wants of their buyers. As a result it becomes un-economical to continue to offer products that are undesirable because they are out of date or behind the times.Eventually the consumer is only left with the top couple of options because there is no market for anything less.

A good real life application of this principle can be seen through the actions of President Perez of CNET Kodak (a digital video company).Mr. Perez had a digital product that was called the digicam. This was a relatively low end product and thus most buyers had lost interest in it.As a result Mr. Perez announced that they would develop a "five megapixel CMOS" sensor which would make its way into a future Kodak digital camera.Mr. Perez had to catch up with technology if he wanted to maintain a successful product.

Innovation is a big part of the latest and the greatest when it comes to digital video equipment.Every once in a while digital video developers are able to come up with features that have not yet been introduced to the market.Sometimes these features are welcomed by the consumer and lead to increased sales.Other times the added cost of a feature does not justify the purchase and an innovative additive can hurt sales.

Some of the up and coming features for digital video camcorders include products that are completely waterproof. In June of 2007 the Sanyo Electric Company launched their waterproof version of the Xacti digital video camera for the Japanese market. This digital video camera can be fully submerged to a depth of 1.5 meters and still keep on recording.High Definition is another big seller.Panasonic has introduced a new version of their popular digital video recorder that offers HD versatility at a price that an average person can live with.

Since the 60's we have evolved a lot when it comes to digital imaging and there is no end in sight when it comes to the possibilities present for even more amazing recording feats. The future holds even more amazing innovations that now sound too good to be true.In 2007 the highest resolution demonstrated for digital video generation was 33 megapixels. That equals about 60 digital video frames per second!33 megapixels is quite amazing, more than twice the megapixel quality that the average person carries in their digital cameras.Although this capability has only been demonstrated in laboratory settings it provides an exiting peek into the possibilities that the future holds for the latest in digital video equipment.Researchers predict that the future will eventually bring what they believe to be the highest speed attainable by a digital video recorder, the capability to film up to one million frames per second!Keeping up to date with the latest digital video equipment is certainly something that will keep all of us on our toes.
