Digital cameras are fun to use, allow you to take great photos, and view them instantly, etc. Digital cameras are a lot of fun, but would be of little use if they did not exhibit the ability to connect with other forms of technology, plus they may not be as worth the cost if they did not offer many functions. The following is a rundown of the multi-functionality and connectivity of most digital cameras and other digital photography equipment:

First and foremost is the memory systems of most digital cameras. Most digital cameras have a digital memory device used for storing images which can be put on a computer later. So, in this way the connect with computers through their memory device, or using a fire wire. It is easier today to put your pictures right on your computer and upload them to a photo printing lab than it is to go to the lab and wait in line to get them printed.

Except for some linear array type of cameras at the highest-end and simple web cams at the lowest-end, all digital cameras have removable storage which allows them to connect with all sorts of other mediums, from computers to kiosks, etc. The digital storage device can be something like a flash memory (commonly called compact flash), a SD memory card (SanDisk), or other options including floppy disks and CD-RW. Most digital cameras these days operate with a SD card, which is a very compact form of memory, so it is super small and holds generally up to 4 GB of memory. Most are only 2 GB however.

When it comes to multi-functionality it is crazy. Many digital cameras do more than just take pictures. Some digital cameras can take pictures and sometimes additionally record sound and video as well. In fact, most consumer digital cameras now have the option of recording at least a few minutes of video. How much video they can record depends on the memory amount they have. Some digital cameras can function not just as a camera but also as a webcam, which makes communication with those far away much easier, and because you can get that with the purchase of your point and shoot camera, it is also much cheaper.

Some digital cameras use the PictBridge standard to connect to a printer without using a computer, which is really useful for printing and sharing. In fact, most digital cameras now have printer docks, and specific printers that are made just for them. However, you do not need the specific printer to be able to print your pictures as most come equipped with a USB output port and cable and if you have a photo printer, you can connect directly to it to print.

Another cool thing that digital cameras can now do is connect directly to a television. This allows for them to display pictures directly on a television set. This is fun for celebrations, parties, presentations, etc.

If you have a digital camcorder, you may have the ability to take still photos and store them on videotape or on some sort of flash memory card.

As you can see, digital cameras now have the ability to help you multi-task, as they are multi-functional, and to connect with the world around you simply. Printing, storing, and sharing your photos has never been easier than it is now with digital cameras and the latest digital technology.
