My computer tells me that a file does not have a program associated with it, what do I do?
Before you pick up the phone to call your tech person, see if you can solve the problem yourself. Maybe you can't fix it, but you might be able to atleast understand what is happening. If you have gotten one of these messages that says a file does not have a program associated with it you probably know what we mean. What does this mean? You are probably trying to open a file, right? When you click on it to open it you get this strange message. What the message means is that your computer lacks the particular program, the software, needed to run this particular file type. For example, if you tried to open a Microsoft Excell file on a computer that did not have Microsoft Excell, you would not be able to do so. You need the right type of software to open particular files. With so many different programs and types of software available these days, the chances are good that you will find some type of file your computer is not prepared to open. So if you do find yourself without the right type of software, what should you do? The easiest way to solve this problem is to simply find the software needed to run this particular file. Obviously your computer does not have it, so you need to look around and try to find it. You can either try to purchase this software, which might be necessary, or you can see if your computer can find it online for you. Often times, if you are using Windows, the computer will offer to try to find the program online. This does not mean that it can get it for you for free, but you will atleast know what you are looking for. Sometimes the software can be had for free, in which case you just need to download it and install it on your computer. When the installation is complete you should be able to easily open the file without any problem or delay. Hopefully using these techniques you can find and install the software you need. If you cannot do this you will be able to contact the person sending the file and tell them the problem. They might be able to quickly and simply change the program they are using to one your computer has. If this is the case you should be able to easily solve your problem. Otherwise good luck finding the program that will work for your machine! |
