HD technology has made leaps and bounds in the quality of home entertainment. HD stands for high-definition, a relatively young technology used with televisions to greatly enhance picture quality and TV viewing experiences. TV's equipped with HD are known as HDTV's or high definition televisions. With the increase in popularity of HDTV viewing, satellite TV providers have caught on and modernized their offerings by providing services specifically for subscribers with HD.

HD and Satellite TV
In order to access the offerings of satellite TV, satellite dish antennas and satellite receivers are installed for subscribers. Satellite receivers are DVD player or VCR-like machines that are installed inside the home with like home entertainment equipment. They are hooked up to both a TV and the satellite dish and make access to satellite TV channels and broadcasts possible.

In keeping up with home entertainment trends, satellite TV providers now offer HD satellite receivers designed specifically to be compatible with HDTV's. The two major satellite TV providers, Dish Network and DirecTV, both offer a variety of satellite TV receiver options, as well as access to special HD channels.

When considering a subscription to satellite TV, HDTV owners should peruse the special offers provided to them, such as available with these HD receivers:
