Satellite TV: Hughes satellite receiver

sattelite30496165.jpg
Satellite TV requires certain equipment in order to allow subscribers access to satellite transmissions. In addition to a satellite dish, which must be installed on the subscriber's house, a satellite receiver must be installed in the house and connected to the satellite dish. In addition to the satellite dish, a satellite receiver is what makes viewing satellite TV possible. These machines look similar to DVD players or VCR's and allow easy and convenient access to satellite TV channels and broadcasts.

Satellite receivers are provided with a satellite TV subscription. Normally a basic satellite receiver is provided for each household television the subscriber wishes to have satellite TV access. Subscribers can however, upgrade their basic receiver to one that features more operating options and "bells and whistles".
DVR and HD satellite receivers are two optional satellite receivers a subscriber may choose to upgrade to.

DVR Receivers
DVR stands for digital video recorder. DVR receivers allow users to pause, rewind, and record live TV shows. These recorded shows are stored in the receiver. Users can program their DVR receiver to automatically record up to 2 different TV shows, even if they're watching another.

HD Receivers
HD stands for high definition, a relatively young technology used with televisions. Many HDTV's (high definition televisions) are on the market. HD satellite receivers have been created to function specifically with HDTV's, and allow the user to enjoy programming with the clarity, vibrancy, and life-like qualities HD technology is known for.

Satellite receivers are routinely purchased by subscribers through major satellite TV providers such as Dish Network or DirecTV when a subscription is purchased. However, satellite TV subscribers may also choose to purchase a satellite receiver on their own.

Hughes Satellite Receivers

Hughes is a major satellite electronics company which includes a division that manufactures satellite receivers. Hughes offers a wide selection of receivers available through satellite equipment distributors and on Amazon's website. Hughes is normally the brand of receiver DirecTV offers, therefore many Hughes satellite receivers purchased separately may require a subscription to DirecTV.
