Satellite TV: Marine satellite TV

entertainmentcenter63493818.jpg
Satellite television is a common tool for home entertainment, found in more and more homes across the country. However, satellite TV access is not restricted solely to home use. Those who own sailing vessels can enjoy access to satellite TV entertainment as well.

Persons who spend time at sea, in yachts, working boats, or in the Navy for example, may be interested in satellite TV entertainment in their sailing craft. With a marine satellite, designed specifically for use at sea, users can access the hundreds of channels, satellite broadcasts, and XM Satellite Radio broadcasts satellite TV provides.

Marine Satellite TV Antennas
In order to access transmitted broadcasts, shows, and radio on a sailing vessel, a TV antenna designed specifically for marine use will need to be installed on the vessel, and a satellite TV subscription purchased. There are multiple marine satellite companies that provide satellites for use on sailing crafts. The two most well-known marine satellite makers are Sea Tel and KVH TracVision.
Marine satellite TV antennas can be purchased through Sea Tel or KVH Trac Vision dealers, or through boating retailers on the internet. Marine satellites are expensive machines, ranging in price from over $2,000 to nearly $9,000. Marine satellites require special construction and features to withstand sea elements and provide complete satellite transmission access offshore. Marine satellites are always white, and designed to be unobtrusive additions to sailing crafts. Marine satellites are usually about 18" high, while some special designs are as small as 14".

Examples of available marine satellites and their features include:
