What qualifications your IT guy should have

No matter what position you are hiring for you are going to need to make sure that the person you are hiring for that job has certain qualifications. Basically you want to make sure that these people are actually able to do the job that is required of them and that they have the know how of how to do the job. The reason for this is that you don't want to have somebody doing a job that they can't physically or mentally do; basically you don't want to have a maintenance worker running the accounting department. What this means is that you want to hire the right person for the right job and this includes your IT guy. So in order to make sure that you are hiring the right person for your IT department you are going to want to make sure that this person meets certain qualifications that you have set forth before you hire them.

But something that you want to keep in mind is that the qualifications can be adjusted to fit your needs. Basically what this means is that if you find somebody who has the ability and the experience but is lacking the education qualification you can make expectations. But something else that you want to think about is that you will want to have different qualifications for entry level IT guys compared to supervisors.

Here are some of the qualifications that your IT guy should have.

Number one:
The first thing that you want to make sure of is the fact that your IT guy has some kind of experience. The more experience that they have in this area the better, but still even somebody with one year of experience in the IT department is better than you trying to struggle through this area yourself. But honestly the only person who can decide how much experience they should have is you, plus you also need to keep in mind that there is both formal experience and informal experience so you have to decide which one you will accept. But keep in mind that just because somebody has never worked in that field before that doesn't mean they don't know what they are doing, they can actually have informal experience.

Number two:
The next thing that you want to think about is what education level your IT guy needs to have. This again can be left up in the air but most IT jobs require that you have at least a Bachelor's Degree in some related type of field. Sure it is even better if they have a degree in information technology, but programming and other computer science areas should work. But again some people can actually have an informal education in computers or they can have a degree in something else but be genesis's when it comes to computers.

Number three:
This is probably going to be the most important qualification when it comes to choosing your IT guy. But another thing that you want to make sure that they actually have the ability to perform the job, basically what this means is that they are actually going to be able to do the things that are asked of them without somebody holding their hand. This is usually even more important than education and experience because of the fact that this proves to you how good the IT person actually is. One way to figure out if they have the ability to perform the job function is to give them some kind of a test that lets them so you what they can and can't do.
