Mobile advertising

Mobile advertising is still a relatively new form of marketing and advertising. With any new area, there are still plenty of kinks to sort out and questions to answer. It can be challenging to pave the way in these kinds of conditions, but despite the drawbacks (which comes from an evolving market), there are still many benefits to mobile advertising, and getting involved with it sooner rather than later.
Benefits of mobile advertising:

1. Helps advertisers find their audience. You can't guarantee that your audience is going to notice a billboard, or a flyer, or a mailer, or a radio or television ad, etc. but most people do carry their mobile devices with them, and getting a text message (SMS marketing), or some other form of mobile advertising is likely. In addition, mobile marketing allows you to target specific users in a very simplified manner so that you can reach who you want, when you want.

2. Reach users based on location. Mobile marketing takes advantage of GPS technology using geolocation (where GPS is used or Cell phone tower location) to determine local search queries, to provide basic demographics, and to help marketers provide useful and relevant information to consumers based on where they are located. This is great for a number of reasons, but is especially helpful with mobile search, where a huge percentage of mobile searches are location specific.

3. Reach users based on demographic information. Mobile marketing makes it easy to reach users based on demographic information. This information can be provided by the carriers, or by analyzing behavior patterns. Being able to reach a specific demographic makes your advertisements and marketing efforts more effective because they are being seen by the people they are meant for.

4. Reach users based on content and publisher. Again this is very useful as it helps you to narrow down the information you send out, and customize it to fit the user you are trying to reach, making it more personal, and thus more likely to engage them. This is the goal of every marketer, to send a message that speaks to the consumer and engages them. Mobile marketing makes that easier by making it far more realistic to target specific content and publishers.

5. Target specific devices and carriers. You can target specific carriers. You can target specific devices. Why is this important? One of the main reasons is that there is no standard across mobile devices, which means that a mobile landing page designed for the iPhone might not appear very well, or be very functional on a different device. Being able to target specific carriers and devices means providing information and links that are both relevant, and easy to navigate based on the operating system, carrier, or device used. This cuts down on consumer frustration, and improves brand engagement.

Of course there are many other benefits for mobile advertising, including that it simply engages customers and drives traffic, but these are some of the best reasons to start now, rather than play catch up later on.
