Office organizing tips

businessmeeting33030104.jpgOffices can quickly become cluttered with stacks of paper, pens, keyboards, staplers, and a handful of other things. If you aren't working on keeping your office clean and organized all the time, it can quickly become cluttered and this can decrease your productivity.

To get started with your office cleaning, grab a few boxes and a couple trash bags. You will need to clear everything off your desk and out of your drawers and then start sorting though the things you need in order to do your job on a daily basis. Place all the things you need in one box and all the things that you occasionally use in another bag. This is a simple way to remove all of the excess clutter from your desk and to put other things back where they belong.

Use some inbox and outbox trays along with some filing folders where you can place your different papers and keep them organized. It's a simple way to prioritize certain documents so you don't lose them anymore. Having an inbox and outbox will also help you keep track of the important documents and hand them off to the right people when you are done with them.

Useless files and documents take up a lot of room on your desk and you will realize it the second you get a filing folder and a box to put them into. Make a conscious effort each day to put the papers into their right place so that you don't start to build up a desk of clutter again.

If you have a bunch of books, get a shelf for all of them. Small bookshelves are pretty cheap and they can hold a pretty large number of books without breaking. You might also consider placing the books in a closet where they are far enough away so you won't just grab at them and put them on your desk when you are done with them. Little things like books and papers quickly develop into clutter if you aren't being careful about the way manage your desk.

After you have organized all of the things that you actually need, place the others in a closet in the second box or toss them into the garbage. If you haven't used these items in months, you probably don't need them and they are just taking up needed desk space.

Each week take some time to clean your office. Grab a vacuum and be sure to clean up all the little bits of paper along with dirt and other things that gather in an office. While you may not notice it, you actually need to vacuum your office often because dust and a number of other things will build up.

If your desk doesn't have drawers to hold all of your pens and pencils, purchase a pencil cup holder. This is a simple way to clean up your desk quickly and it will easily organize your desk to make it manageable for you to work on again.

Just moving things into drawers and holders will free up a ton on space that you didn't know you had. Keeping your office clean will allow you to come up with new ideas and to find the inspiration you need to stay motivated about your job. If you don't have an office with a window, hang a nice picture on the wall. This is a great way to escape into a different reality once and awhile when your job starts to get the best of you.

Lastly, keep some disinfectant wipes close by. Your desk is a breeding ground for bacteria and you need to keep it as clean as possible to prevent the spread of diseases.
